Predatory Void drops standalone single/video, “*(struggling..)”

Having recently announced their signing to Century Media Records, with a debut album on the way, Predatory Void are now giving fans a new standalone single: “*(struggling..)”. Stream the track here; the video (by Jeroen Mylle, and shot in the workshop of painter and visual artist Sven Verhaege) can be viewed below – featuring make-up by Tine Josephy, concept by Lina R. and Maria Ovejero, plus mask by Maria Ovejero

Predatory Void comments: “‘*(struggling..)’ is about how we slowly begin to decay from the inside, trapped in a flesh prison, experiencing pain and longing for a release. Physical agony follows, amplifying despair and misery, and there is no escape.”

Predatory Void came to be when guitarist Lennart Bossu (Amenra, Oathbreaker) found himself writing material that wasn’t really suited for Amenra. Lennart gathered a group of likeminded people living in the area of Ghent (BE) – including the versatile vocalist and tattoo artist Lina R – and soon after, the band was born, with Tim De Gieter (bass; Amenra, Doodseskader, Much Luv Studio), Thijs De Cloedt (guitar; Cobra The Impaler, ex-Aborted), and Vincent Verstrepen (drums). Predatory Void played their first show at the renowned Soulcrusher Festival (NL) alongside artists such as Ihsahn, Envy, Cave In and Heriot, creating a buzz within the scene. With an album’s worth of material already written, they signed to Century Media Records for their worldwide debut.

With this signing news, Predatory Void revealed their plans to perform said debut record – Seven Keys to the Discomfort of Being – in full at Roadburn Festival 2023. The band comments: “We feel privileged to be granted the opportunity to present our debut album, ‘Seven Keys to the Discomfort of Being‘, in its entirety at Roadburn, one of the institutions that set the standard in the world of underground heavy music. The album contains some things that will be difficult to recreate live elsewhere, so this will definitely be a unique occasion. It will also be one of our very first live shows ever, so we can’t imagine a better and more exciting start for a new band.”

Predatory Void live:

Apr. 20-23, 2023 – Tilburg (NL) – Roadburn Festival

Predatory Void line-up:

Lina R – vocals

Lennart Bossu – guitar

Tim De Gieter – bass

MNRK Music Group Signs The Slugganauts

MNRK Music Group announces its newest signing, heavy metal band The Slugganauts! The Slugganauts are featured in the BunnyKitty universe, an animated world created by legendary graffiti artist Dave ‘Persue’ Ross. The Slugganauts will release a new single, “No More Gimmicks,” in February, followed by more new music in 2023, all real-world compositions by musicians on the MNRK Music Group roster. About this new project, Persue says, “The resurrection will be televised.”

In 2001, Persue’s graffiti propelled him forward into the world of skateboarding and aesthetics, eventually helping him pioneer the marketing space of some of the most iconic streetwear brands, including DC, Circa, and Osiris. In 2001, amidst his abstract letterforms, Persue created the character BunnyKitty, the beloved cat in a bunny suit character, which took on a life of her own, and forever changed the trajectory of Persue’s career.

BunnyKitty was born on a wall, but now she lives on the page and on the blockchain, first in The Origins of BunnyKitty (2016), then in her newly-released adventure, BunnyKitty in the City (December 2022), and most recently an NFT sale in collaboration with Web3 studio, Notables, which sold out in just 3 minutes. The Slugganauts’ first single will release in February, followed by more new music this year. MNRK plans to release vinyls, band merch, music videos and stage live performances.

Ibex Clone (mems of Ex-Cult, Nots) Share Single / Video “There Is No Light”

New Album on Goner out this Friday – Announce NYC dates

Ibex Clone’s All Channels Clear tunnels back through the shredded remains of folk, pop, blues and psychedelia to rediscover the real, the human, and the good in this world. Listen close and you’ll hear the ramshackle chime of Big Star, the fingerstyle melodicism of John Fahey and Gimmer Nicholson, and the wild experimentalism of Amon Düül II.

Imagine a world apart from our own—an agrarian utopia where the corroded cables of the 20th century lie in moss-covered heaps and the Mississippi River runs clear. New structures rise from the detritus, gnarled patchworks of the natural world and everything else humanity left behind. This is a world where Nirvana and NAFTA never happened, punk didn’t break but bloomed, and guitars jangle in the breeze. This is the world of Ibex Clone and their new album, All Channels Clear

Just ahead of its Friday release they’ve released their new single “There Is No Light” and an accompanying video by Noah Miller which was filmed this in the middle of last summer’s heatwave. The band tells, “The sun was beating down so hard it was hard to tell if everything was brimming with energy or verging on death. This song and video are about all kinds of cycles.”

Formed by members of essential bands from the modern era of Memphis rock and roll, Ibex Clone reconfigures the paranoiac punk of Ex-Cult, NOTS and Hash Redactor into something altogether different, a vision of music from a timeline that split with ours a long time ago.

Guitarist George Williford’s dizzy six- and twelve-string explorations form a lush thicket for Alec McIntyre’s fluid basslines to slip in and around, anchored by Meredith Lones’ steady, driving rhythms. Williford’s powerful vocal melodies ward off impending death and decay with visionary lyrics about humanity’s place in the ecosystem, the balm of love and friendship, and the complex feeling of being alive in this version of the world of tomorrow.

All Channels Clear develops the woozy, folk-tinged post-punk of their excellent debut From Nowhere into a catchy, complex approach to the pastoral power pop of XTC, the Meat Puppets, and Guided By Voices. Ibex Clone doesn’t offer an antidote or a soundtrack to a world in rapid decline, but instead a window into something much stranger and, maybe – if we can find the path – better.

All Channels Clear is out this Friday, February 3 via Goner RecordsPre-order it here.

Progressive rock band The Contortionist release a new box set, Retrospective: Live from Atlanta, today.  The box set boasts three double LPs comprised of recordings from the band’s 2021 live-stream performances. The 3 live streamed performances cover every facet of the band’s career, including a full album performance of the critically acclaimed full-length Clairvoyant, as well as an entire set focused on the band’s heavier catalog.

Featuring over 30 tracks, the impressive package is a limited-edition set, with only 1500 copies available worldwide. It comes housed in a 12x12x2 embossed box and features translucent acetate overlay alternate covers for each of the three live stream sets. Each live stream set comes pressed on 12” 180g double vinyl in a beautiful gatefold package. Fans can purchase the box set here.

Guitarist Cameron Maynard says, “When we initially conceived this project, our objective was to give something to our fans amidst the inability to physically perform to a live audience. As it turns out, we were so happy with the end result that we thought it would only be appropriate to release in a more tangible way. We have always wanted to release a box set like this, and after seeing some original ideas for the art, we knew it had to be done.”

Keyboardist Eric Guenther adds, “Although the motivation for this project was born out of uncertainty and cancellations, the opportunity to perform and create the definitive musical artifact for this band’s history became a silver lining. To me, this is years of work finally realized, and thanks to our fans’ response, we were able to make this project timeless with a proper release. This is the best representation of The Contortionist to date, and to us, the recording that defines the identity of this band and how we sounded in the first 10+ years. Thanks to our fans for making this band real. Also, we can’t wait to share what we have been working on.”

Violet Saturn’s Debut Album “All The Cool Kids” Available Now

Violet Saturn today released their debut album All the Cool Kids via Big Machine/John Varvatos Records. The young Rock duo made up of siblings Lauren (17) and Spencer (20) Carr Reed have teased fans with several tracks leading into the album’s release which have garnered praise for setting “some high expectations of their debut album” (Sweety High) as they “summon the raw energy and provocations of Pop-Punk and Classic Rock with a fresh twist” (E! Online). Recently included in Billboard’s list of “10 Cool New Pop Songs to Get You Through The Week,” the new fusion of sounds, written by the siblings themselves, could just be what music fans need to get through the lull in new Olivia Rodrigo tunes.

Across the album, Violet Saturn shares their wisdom and talents beyond their years with songs that can speak to Rock audiences that extend far past their fellow Gen Zers. With the danceable yet moody “All the Cool Kids” setting the tone (and title) with its nonconformal, reflective and disaffected spirit, the pair tackle the disillusions of the real world and some of the ugly yet relatable truths about life’s disappointments and perspectives. As they take a shot at the conventional cool kids, they inadvertently challenge the status quo and are carving out their own path as the new cool kids, as outlets like Sweety High saying “With their playful yet poetic brand of Pop-Punk… Violet Saturn is quickly becoming a standout in the genre.”

Listen to All the Cool Kids HERE

“I can’t believe All the Cool Kids is actually out there in the universe! We’ve been writing these songs since I was 13 and Spencer was 16 so it’s insane and really exciting that we are finally sharing them with the world,” said Lauren. “The album is really a musical diary of our teenage years—facing the struggles of being young, growing up, expectations, acceptance and all of the feelings that go with it.”

“No matter the age or individual journey, it’s safe to say that there are certain elements we’ve all collectively experienced during our adolescence—whether these songs tap into some sort of nostalgic feeling from youth or folks are in the thick of it now, I hope they can relate to it in a fresh new way…and jam out to it,” added Spencer. “Sonically, we tried to keep people on their toes and buried a twist in each song—I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, so I’ll just say definitely make sure to listen to the end of ‘Over.’”

Produced by the siblings as well as Julian Raymond, All the Cool Kids with its brash, Pop-Punk vibe is an undeniable blend of the duo’s many influences including Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Lana Del Rey and No Doubt. Filled with an extra dose of angst and frustration, the collection of songs was undoubtedly influenced by period in which they were written—while stuck at home in the pandemic, suspended from performing each week. Initially written on a home computer, when recording the final project, the Southern California natives turned to heavy hitters like drummer Josh Freese (Devo, Guns N’ Roses, Paramore) and bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette) to help bring the fun, vibrant yet heavy songs to life.

On January 28, Violet Saturn will celebrate their album release with an all-ages show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. For more information and tour dates, please visit violetsaturn.com.

All The Cool Kids Track Listing:
1. “Who Is She?” Lauren Carr Reed, Spencer Carr Reed

About Violet Saturn:

Brother-and-sister act Violet Saturn summon the raw energy and provocations of Pop-Punk and Alternative with a fresh, Gen Z twist. 17-year-old lead singer Lauren Carr Reed brings powerful vocals and an impressive range to the band’s addictive, angsty songs, while 20-year-old Spencer holds down the instrumentals and production, leading the band and its invigorating yet polished rock sound on guitar. Together, they have a sound so seamless it could only be the product of two artists who have grown up together and been playing and writing as a unit for as long as they can remember. As kids in Southern California, it just always seemed inevitable that they would make it, together —and now, already having had a song in rotation on Los Angeles Rock station KLOS and signed a contract with Big Machine (BMR Rock), Violet Saturn is making good on that early promise. “Quickly becoming a standout in the genre,” (Sweety High), Violet Saturn released their debut album All the Cool Kids on January 27, 2023.

ABOUT ALICE COOPER:

Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. Alice Cooper brings his own brand of rock psycho-drama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as the audience does. Twenty-plus years into the new millennium, Cooper is always very productive and busy, touring worldwide year-in and year-out while also writing, recording and releasing new albums like 2021’s “Detroit Stories,” which entered the Billboard Album chart at #1, and finishing up TWO new albums planned for 2023, while also continuing to do his nightly “Nights With Alice Cooper” syndicated radio show.

DEATHSTARS announce New Album “Everything Destroys You”

Release Stunning Video For New Single
“This Is”

Swedish industrial cult act DEATHSTARS finally return with their latest sonic output Everything Destroys You, which will be released on May 5th through Nuclear Blast Records.
Their first release in over eight years marks a long-awaited comeback, spotlighting everything that is DEATHSTARS: adrenaline, bombast, sex & glam!

The reason it’s been taking so long is that we simply wanted – and needed – a break after intense touring and so on, and on top of that the pandemic happened so tours were postponed and the release with them, so it feels fantastic to finally be able to present Everything Destroys You‘, says Nightmare Industries.

The band are celebrating their return with an amazing video for the first single ´This Is´ .

Frontman Whiplasher Bernadotte stated about the video: “We had a lot of discussions regarding the first video. At some point, it was going to be filmed in Mexico City, the next day Paris or Belgrade but we ended up just filming it in Stockholm, where we live. It was kind of a slimmed-down production, shooting for a couple of days in the old slaughterhouse area in Stockholm.
We wanted to do a video with no green screen or blue box, just a straightforward rock video that illustrates what this band is about in less than four minutes. It was weird shooting it where we did. We actually filmed it in ‘Slaktkyrkan’, which means ‘The slaughter church’, and the scenario… well, in one corner you could see a very androgynous looking Cat in high heels with a lot of weird lights all around him, in another corner Nightmare strapped to some fence in a straitjacket, then we had Skinny with a chainsaw and an angle grinder – just decapitating mannequins, Nitro toiling in a sea of fire and drums, and also me with my 130-kilo python, who is 6,30 meters long and her name is Cruella. Interesting creature! She was very heavy to walk around with; sliding around my shoulders and constantly licking my neck with her tongue. We had a good time.”

Out Now! Finnish Rockers LEAFLET’s New Album “Something Beyond”

Out now via Rockshots Records, Finnish rockers LEAFLET release their sophomore album “Something Beyond”.

Formed in 2013, LEAFLET is a four-piece hard rock band from Turku, Finland. Their music can be described as metal-infused American-style hard rock and while you might hear echoes of bands like Alter Bridge or Shinedown they have their own unique Nordic flavour. In 2019, LEAFLET released “Johnny Two-Face” as a single through VR Label Finland followed by an ambitious music video shot in both Turku, Finland, and Tokyo, Japan. After a couple of years of silence due to the pandemic, the band is now back with their second album “Something Beyond”, sounding stronger than ever.

“With this album, we have tried to refine our sound further to something that can be more easily identified as LEAFLET instead of our influences. The album is full of catchy metal-influenced rock tunes that would fit perfectly in the heavy rotation of every rock radio station. The album has a lot of variety within the songs and we got a diverse selection of singles as well. Three very different singles trying to represent the entire album as well as possible. As singles, we got one heavy and hard-hitting tune, one straightforward and super catchy tune, and one fast-paced in-your-face type of tune. You should check out them all to see what you think!” says the band.
