AMON AMARTH continues to tour in support of their critically adored The Great Heathen Army full-length. Recorded with esteemed studio guru Andy Sneap and released in 2022, the record represents another bold leap forward for the band, as their trademark sound undergoes yet another skillful, evolutionary overhaul, both lyrically and musically. From the noisily rabble-rousing “Find A Way Or Make One” and the pummeling, pugilistic “Get In The Ring” to the cinematic squall of the title track, The Great Heathen Army encapsulates the essence of this legendary band, while still allowing acres of space for new ideas.

Wrote Louder Sound of the offering, “The Great Heathen Army is simultaneously everything that helped AMON AMARTH climb to the top in the first place and a return to the darker, less showy sound of their early days… the band’s innate sense for fist-pumping riffs and colossal hooks remains impossible to deny.” Concurred Blabbermouth, “Both an unapologetic, festival-ready dose of new, gleaming, Viking-populated anthems, and one of the darkest and most brutal albums they have yet made, The Great Heathen Army feels celebratory, too — an extravagant blowout to mark the start of the next invasion.”

Fans can check out a teaser for the band’s upcoming video for “Saxons and Vikings” HERE and can preview and purchase The Great Heathen Army at: metalblade.com/amonamarth.

Formed in Tumba, Sweden in 1992, AMON AMARTH has forged an extraordinary legacy over three decades of thunderous, anthemic metal, all rich in the magical imagery of Viking history, folklore, and culture. With albums like 2008’s widely acclaimed Twilight Of The Thunder God and 2016’s conceptual triumph Jomsviking, the Swedes have been consistent standard bearers for heavy metal as a life-affirming and communal experience, armed with a seemingly endless stream of instant classic songs.

LIVE REVIEW AND PHOTO GALLERY: Nonpoint & Sumo Cyco The Million Watts Tour 2023

In Harrisburg, PA on December 1st, 2023

Have you ever had your car towed and impounded while attending a concert? Well, I can now say I have. I took my son to see his first concert this weekend. Nonpoint and Sumo Cyco were starting their “The Million Watts Tour” in Harrisburg, PA. We loaded up the car, got a hotel and drove all the way from North Jersey to Pennsylvania. It was cold, rainy, and parking was awful. I parked in what turned out to be a private lot and my car was towed. I had to get a second hotel because the towing company wasn’t open until the following day. Long story short and over $1,000 dollars later…. My son can now say he attended a Nonpoint & Sumo Cyco show.

Written by Stephen Moss / New Rock City

For most people, an experience like that would sour their attitude for attending the show. Some might even say it wasn’t worth it. However, Nonpoint and Sumo Cyco were so amazing and played such a fantastic sold out show that honestly, It was absolutely worth it! My son left the show and said, “That was awesome!”

I can’t overstate this enough… It’s great to see bands still playing all ages shows. This is how we ensure the next generation will appreciate live music. There were plenty of kids and teens at the show. Both bands played their own set with the added bonus of Sky from Sumo Cyco coming out and playing a song with Nonpoint. Thats why I’m reviewing them together.

This was my second time seeing Nonpoint. The first time I saw them was about 10 years ago in Poughkeepsie, NY when they opened for 10 Years. During that show, I was blown away by the fast paced setlist. This time around, I honestly expected Nonpoint to have less stamina because a decade has gone by. To my amazement, I was wrong. Nonpoint came out strong kept the energy their entire set! It was the same atmosphere as when I saw them 10 years ago. If you are reading this and have never seen Nonpoint live… Dude, you are really missing out! They are easily one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen. If you’re a younger band reading this and want pointers on how to improve your stage presence, then go watch Nonpoint live and take notes.

Sumo Cyco Social links

Going into this show, I had not heard of Sumo Cyco before so I was curious how Sumo Cyco would be able to match the vibe that Nonpoint has at their live shows. Again, I was extremely surprised to see that Sumo Cyco not only held their own, but they were able to match the same level of aggression and excitement. Even with everything that happened to me, I’d do it all again. What an amazing pair of bands to see together. The pair are on their way to Canada, then the midwest USA. You definitely need to see them on this tour.

The Nonpoint Tour includes special guests (HED)p.e., Sumo Cyco, and VRSTY. (in our review we unfortunately missed performances of (HED)p.e., and VRSTY).

SWANSONG Release Debut Album “Awakening”

Unveil Captivating Single And Music Video “Become”

Finnish melodic death metal band Swansong have released their debut full-length record Awakening today via Noble Demon. Already garnering critical acclaim, this album seamlessly blends the best of 80’s and 90’s metal with versatile extreme vocals, creating a unique and captivating sound.

Combining the beautiful with the brutal since 2020, Swansong have never shied away from breaking boundaries. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Dark Tranquillity, 90s melodeath, death and black metal, as well as Shadow Of Intent’s modern sound, the band’s vocals are a force to be reckoned with. The composition of the album is heavily influenced by iconic bands such as Iron Maiden, Children Of Bodom, and the neo-classical metal of the 80s. These ingredients, combined with kick-ass riffs, will transport you back to the vibes of the golden era of metal, while the Finnish four-piece adds its very own new twist to these elements with low female death growls and high pitched screams.

To celebrate the album release properly, Swansong have unleashed a brand new and captivating music video for the track “Become”. Watch the video here:

Awakening is out NOW on Noble Demon and available as colored marbled vinyl, CD digipak or digital release. Furthermore, an exclusive album shirt is also available for the release. Both, the album and the shirt, are available at

PUSSY RIOT CREATOR NADYA TOLOKONNIKOVA IS ADDED TO RUSSIA’S FEDERAL WANTED LIST, COURT PAPERS POINT TO NFT ART AS EVIDENCE

A publication containing signs of insult, an expression of obvious disrespect in relation to the icon image The Virgin Mary, depicted in an obscene form, so that the image is perceived as outwardly similar to the anatomical details of the female external genitalia, that is, it visually repeats them, thereby expressing disrespect, disregard for the image revered in Christianity.

Nadya Tolokonnikova was added to Russia’s federal wanted list. She is being charged under a law, which was created in the aftermath of Pussy Riot’s 2012 art piece – Punk Prayer. The law deals specifically with “hurting the religious feelings” of people in Russia. In 2012, Tolokonnikova was charged with “hooliganism”, however the courts wished to broaden their ability to prosecute cases like this, so they created the “religious feelings” law, or the “Pussy Riot Law” as it came to be known.

This NFT created in 2021, has a similar refrain, asking “Virgin Mary, Please Become a Feminist” – and includes image of Mary in vaginal form painted on top of Nadya’s 2012 arrest papers.

In 2022, generative artist Shvembldr reported on an endless court battle with Latvian courts based on the sales and finances around his NFT sales. (Artnet) This case with Pussy Riot appears to be the first criminal case based on the content of the NFT artwork, not related to finance or securities law.

According to Tolokonnikova, the case was largely left alone at first, “the courts will sit on these records until they want to do something about it, or something bigger comes up.  I announced Putin’s Ashes at Jeffrey Deitch’s Gallery, and received attention from The New Yorker, LA Times and other large western media. *Coincidentally* my instagram vanished and this new criminal case was announced within a week of the show. Police detained friends and family, and my lawyers sent me the documents they found.”

“Any truly political artist risks their personal safety for the sake of their art… It is not a new concept for me. But maybe the first time art from an NFT is being used as evidence to try to throw someone in jail. The Ukraine flag NFT for Ukraine DAO was sold for close to 7m dollars and the crypto community rallied around it – I’m especially proud of that – we sent funds on the ground to Ukraine, we saved lives in the first few days of the war. I’m sure putin didn’t like that either. Or my latest show with Jeffrey Deitch (Link), where we captured the performance of burning putin’s effigy and collecting and selling his ashes, he probably didnt like that either, I guess we got enough attention to scare him as we rallied allies in the west who were willing to stand up to putin and also to aid Ukraine.

We raised even more funds for a frontline unit in Bakhmut with an open edition NFT drop with Shepard Fairey.  (Link  / Link to NFT)

They threaten us but we cannot show fear. I will use the tools I have as an artist and crypto enthusiast to keep fighting. I’m not a soldier, I’m an artist, art is my weapon. Glad to see they are scared.

ABOUT NADYA TOLOKONNIKOVA AND PUSSY RIOT:

Conceptual performance artist and activist Nadya Tolokonnikova is the creator of Pussy Riot, a global feminist protest art movement. Today, hundreds of people identify as a part of the Pussy Riot community. She was sentenced in 2012 to 2 years’ imprisonment following an anti-Putin performance. Went through a hunger strike protesting savage prison conditions and ended up being sent far away to a Siberian penal colony, where she managed to maintain her artistic activity and with her prison punk band she made a tour around Siberian labor camps. Published a book “Read and riot: Pussy Riot’s guide to activism”.

Co-founder of independent news service and media outlet, Mediazona, she has spoken before the US Congress, British Parliament, European Parliament, appeared as herself on season 3 of House of Cards

Pussy Riot’s “Punk-prayer” was named by The Guardian among the best art pieces of the 21st century (“feminist, explicitly anti-Putin, protesting the banning of gay pride and the Orthodox church’s support of the president”), collaborated with Bansky on his “Dismaland” exhibition, endorsed by Marina Abramovic and Ai Weiwei, gallery shows at London’s Saatchi gallery & Jeffrey Deitch’s LA gallery.

Pussy Riot stands for gender fluidity, inclusivity, matriarchy, love, laughter, decentralization, anarchy, and anti-authoritarianism.

That they are still roaring and soaring should be no surprise. That’s just how they are built. TESLA may have been born in the mid-80s, but their bluesy, soulful sound is strongly embedded in the roots of organic, authentic, 1970s rock and roll. The same roots that produced bands like Bad Company, Grand Funk Railroad, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith.

The ground started shaking in Sacramento, CA, in 1984; gold country that would soon be producing some platinum. They started out as City Kidd, until a suggested name change to TESLA, honoring the eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla who pioneered all things electrical. Their 1986 platinum debut album, Mechanical Resonance, included Top 40 hits “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi.” 1989’s double-platinum The Great Radio Controversy included hits “Heaven’s Trail (No Way Out)” and “Love Song”. Suddenly, TESLA, who had been touring with bands such as Def Leppard and David Lee Roth, earned headlining status. In 1990, TESLA helped reshape the face of modern rock music by stripping down to the Five Man Acoustical Jam, an informal collection of their biggest hits peppered with rock and roll classics by the Beatles, Stones, and others. This album produced their biggest hit single to date, a cover of Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs.” Other 90s albums from TESLA include platinum selling Psychotic Supper and Bust a Nut. The band continues to record and release material including 9 new albums since 2000.

TESLA’s legacy is alive and well as they continue to record and sellout venues all over the world. As comfortable, rugged, and dependable as your favorite pair of boots, they endure. TESLA is a celebration of the greatest spirits of rock and roll.

KSENIA Unleashes Empowering Anthem “It’s My Birthday”

A Celebration of Age and Empowerment

Ksenia, has officially released her latest single, “It’s My Birthday.” Produced by Mario Marchetti (Demi Lovato, JoJo, Super Junior) and co-written by Ksenia, this single was inspired by 50 Cent’s classic “In Da Club” infused with an empowering message. In a world where ageism unfairly impacts women, Ksenia’s lyrics unabashedly proclaim, “It’s my birthday! Still got it! Still the mother fucking life of the party!” The explicit yet non-offensive nature of her lyrics aims to resonate with women facing ageism, delivering a powerful message of self-confidence and resistance against societal norms. Ksenia states “I wanted to release a song for those girls in their late 20’s who think they’re officially too old for Leonardo DiCaprio.”

Stream on Spotify:

As a small-town Russian girl with big dreams, Ksenia has successfully made a name for herself, garnering over 400k followers across Instagram and TikTok and millions of streams across all platforms. Ksenia’s journey from singing at birthday parties and weddings in Russia, to performing on iHeart Radio Live Sessions in NYC, is a testament to her determination and growth. Overcoming language barriers and redefining her artistic identity, Ksenia has successfully fused together her comedic flair with the emotional depth showcased in her music.

Having collaborated on past and upcoming projects with renowned producer Mario Marchetti (Demi Lovato, JoJo), and accomplished writers Gino Barletta (Katy Perry, Daya, Selena Gomez) and Melanie Fontana (Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, Britney Spears), Ksenia has consistently delivered infectious hits. Her 2020 release of “Fire with Fire,” reached #47 on the iTunes pop chart and graced billboards in New York’s Times Square. Notably, Ksenia’s collaboration with Stevie Mackey on “Only Want You More” reached #28 on the iTunes pop chart, gaining recognition on

Tidal’s ‘Rising Pop’ playlist and TikTok’s official ‘Love’ editorial playlist with over 760k streams on Spotify. The track’s success led to features on MTV, Music Choice, and NickMusic rotations.

MORE INFO:

Russian-born and now LA-based, Ksenia began integrating her brand of tongue-in-cheek comedy into her music, often poking fun at the cultural follies of her homeland, while leaning into observational humor around societal issues. She’s now taken that comedy component directly to the stage, and has been performing her stand up routines across the USA (The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, Comedy Cellar NYC, The Comedy Chateau, Dangerfield’s Comedy Club, Flappers, UCB, The Hollywood Improv, The Hollywood Comedy, HaHa Club).

Initially navigating the realm of sad pop songs, Ksenia channeled her experiences as a Russian woman, expressing the depth of her emotions through her music. A whole album emerged from this period, encapsulating the essence of her journey and the universal theme of suffering. Despite her musical prowess, Ksenia encountered roadblocks in releasing her work, grappling with the challenge of navigating the music industry independently. In a pivotal moment during her sad singing shows, an unintentional foray into humor opened a new chapter. Embracing the unexpected laughter from her audience, Ksenia decided to take a stand-up comedy class. Her unique brand of humorous rap, influenced by her stand-up routine, stands as a testament to resilience and creative innovation, embodying the spirit of an artist unafraid to redefine her narrative.

Ace Frehley Announces New Studio Album “10,000 Volts”

First Single and Title Track Out Now

Grammy-nominated R&RHOF inductee and guitar legend ACE FREHLEY announces the release of his new studio album, 10,000 Volts, due out on February 23, 2024. Produced by Ace and Steve Brown (Trixter), the 11-track 10000 Volts sees Ace perform electrifying, hard-hitting, riff-heavy rock’n’ roll.

Today, he releases the first single and title track. Written and produced by Ace and Steve Brown, the track kicks off with a surging riff, and Ace’s swaggering delivery takes hold and never lets go. It culminates on the chantable chorus, “She hit me like 10,000 volts, when I saw her face, giving way to a fret-burning guitar solo.

The accompanying visual for the single was directed by Alex Kouvatsos from Black Wolf Imaging and shows Ace and his band performing the powerful, riff-heavy track live.  Watch below:

Rock ‘n’ roll and heavy metal simply wouldn’t sound, look, or feel the same without Ace Frehley. Among hundreds of accolades, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inducted him in 2014 as a Co-founder and the original lead guitarist of Kiss. Guitar World named him in the Top 15 of its “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time” and plugged the lead from “Shock Me” on the “50 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time.” Magnifying the imprint of his catalog as a solo artist, Foo Fighters cut a fan favorite cover of “Ozone,” and he even jammed out “New York Groove” alongside The Roots on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The late Dimebag Darrell of Pantera proudly sported a tattoo of Frehley on his chest, while Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine celebrated him on X/Twitter as “My first guitar hero.

10,000 Volts
upholds an incredible legacy for Frehley, spanning 50-plus years in the limelight. Back in 1978, he delivered his solo debut, Ace Frehley. It reached platinum status and exploded as “the highest-selling of the four Kiss solo albums in the Soundscan era. Pitchfork even retrospectively rated it a rare “8.5” score. In 1987, he dropped Frehley’s Comet. Following Anomaly in 2009, he went on to make history once again. His 2014 Space Invader LP captured #9 on the Billboard 200 and emerged as “The only solo album by a past or current Kiss member to reach the Top 10 on the chart.” 2016’s Origins Vol. 1, bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart and in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart. He notably maintained his momentum with Spaceman [2018].
