Omnium Gatherum announces new “Slasher” EP

On June 2nd, Omnium Gatherum will release their new EP, Slasher, via Century Media Records. For a first preview of Slasher, the title track can be streamed now here; the video (produced by Coldstore Productions) can be viewed here:

Jukka Pelkonen (vocals) comments: “A powerful fast song with a message like a plea to oneself! The darkness within can be an ally or an enemy. You are both the hunter and the hunted! ‘Slasher‘ is also the title of our upcoming EP. This bad boy delivers two more OG songs and a furious cover. For now, check out the rippings of ‘Slasher’!”

Markus Vanhala (guitars and clean vocals) adds: “Hello from OG HQ! We’ll serve you a snack in between album cycles – it’s called ‘Slasher‘, it’s an EP and it rocks! This release is a two-sided coin: A-side is presenting our new guitar hero and team player on the other side of the Atlantic, Mr. Nick Cordle (who joined the band right after our ‘Origin’ release); B-side is presenting two older songs which were recorded already during the ‘Origin’ sessions and aimed to release as digi-singles (but here they are on vinyl and CD too now finally). Enjoy!”

Mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios, Slasher is modern melodic death metal of the highest caliber. This 4-track EP includes a cover version of the 80s classic “Maniac”, plus the first studio recordings with new guitarist, Nick Cordle. After 25+ years, Omnium Gatherum proves once again that they’re still leading the pack!

Jarvis Leatherby (Vocals / Bass) comments: “Our second single, ‘Escape From Beyond’, is a rip-roaring journey that continues the movement from the title track ‘Outsider’. It’s an ode to finding your place in the universe and trusting that your intuition will guide you. Like many of the songs on this forthcoming album, it has peaks and valleys and it represents major growth from the heavy metal standards. We want to take the listener on an unforgettable ride, while staying true to our signature Night Demon sound. This is a new chapter that we’re beyond excited for.”

For more than a decade, Night Demon have defiantly flown the flag of traditional heavy metal, unwavering in the face of shifting industry trends and unscarred by global calamities. With new album OUTSIDER, the band have challenged themselves musically and lyrically, pushing creative boundaries and evolving their sound far beyond their NWOBHM-worshipping origins into something truly singular.

From a lyrical standpoint, OUTSIDER marks Night Demon‘s first full-blown concept album. To be sure, the band have always experimented with embedding thematic linkages between songs on each release, dating back to their 2015 debut album, Curse of the Damned. On OUTSIDER, however, lyricist Jarvis Leatherby has dialed into a fully cohesive tale of alternate realities, mysterious portals, and the supernatural, intertwined with universal human feelings of alienation, loss, regret and revenge. Inspired by Leatherby’s lifelong affinity for horror movies as well as his pandemic-induced exile in the countryside of Northern Ireland, OUTSIDER weaves a compelling yarn from its pastoral beginnings to its heart-pounding finale.

Of course, this kind of epic storytelling demands an equally expansive musical backdrop that ebbs and flows to convey the full emotional range of OUTSIDER. To achieve that result, Night Demon have reimagined the band’s songwriting and arrangements by embracing progressive elements and a newfound sense of dynamics that lend the music a decidedly cinematic quality. Longtime fans should not be alarmed: OUTSIDER sounds like Night Demon through and through, but the songwriting is perhaps the catchiest in the band’s discography, boasting massive hooks such as those found on the earworm title track, which is also the lead single. Simply put, Night Demon take the listener on a journey with OUTSIDER. It’s a heavy and intense ride, so buckle up. You may never be the same again.

On release day (Mar. 17th), Night Demon will kick off the “Hell’s Decibels Tour 2023”, hitting cities across the USA alongside Satan and Haunt – with the trek concluding in Philly as the official Decibel Metal & Beer Fest pre-party! Insomnium drops new video for “Godforsaken (feat. Johanna Kurkela)”

releases new album, ‘Anno 1696’ via Century Media Records

Finnish metal melancholists Insomnium have released their ninth full-length, Anno 1696, via Century Media Records. Based on a short story by Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals), Anno 1696 takes the listeners back into the dark times of the witch prosecutions in Northern Europe, famine and superstition. Stream or purchase the album here: https://Insomnium.lnk.to/Anno1696

To celebrate the day, the band is playing two sold-out shows at Helsinki’s Tavastia Klubi tonight and tomorrow and has also revealed a new music video for “Godforsaken (feat. Johanna Kurkela)”. Once again directed by Riivata Visuals, the new video can be viewed here:

Guitarist Markus Vanhala comments about the track: “This shows the epic side of the album and is taking the listener through the sonic snowstorms and shamanistic plays. I truly love the shamanistic vocals of the beautiful soul Johanna Kurkela who did a perfect job on executing this vision to perfection. We salute you, Johanna! Probably my own favorite on the album, besides ‘The Rapids’.”

Bassist/vocalist Niilo Sevänen adds: “Vanhala’s composition and one of the most epic songs in this bunch. Here we have the renowned Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela performing the female vocals. Lyrics are from the point of view of the main protagonist, Arvid, who tries to solve the mysterious deaths in the small village.”

Guitarist Ville Friman concludes: “Also one of the oldest demos we had ready for this album before the pandemic hit. The original female voice sample was elevated to another level by Johanna’s vocals. First time we have used female vocals on any Insomnium song.”

This April, Insomnium will return to North America for a co-headlining tour with Enslaved, plus Black Anvil as support. See below for all dates! Tickets and VIP upgrades are available from: www.insomnium.net/tour

Enforced reveals details for new album “War Remains”

Launches first single “Ultra-Violence”

On April 28th, Enforced will release their third full-length, War Remains (32 minutes of aggressive, no-frills thrash!), via Century Media Records. For a first preview of this record, the new single “Ultra-Violence” can be heard now at:

Knox Colby (vocals) comments: ‘War Remains’ is a scathing perception of the modern crumbling world. Humanity seems imprisoned by its violent and chaotic nature; boiling over and doubling down on its own ignorance. The album contemplates and reflects upon the blight with cyclical themes rotating through the songs. It’s a hammer hitting a raw nerve.”

Will Wagstaff (guitars) adds: “This record (‘War Remains’) is furious. If you aren’t in the mood to circle pit, head bang, disrupt the neighbors, etc. don’t put this thing on. From the second the needle touches the record, you are in for about 32 minutes of a non-stop, no frills, indiscriminate ass kicking. Toss out the samples, ambiance, and nonsense. All we need are JCM800s and some V30s to deliver inexorable riffage.”

Pre-order War Remains now at: https://enforced.lnk.to/WarRemains – where the album is available in the following versions:

–Standard CD jewel-case

–Black vinyl

–Blue vinyl available from USA retail (500 copies) & CM Distro Wholesale EU and CMdistro.de (300 copies)

–White vinyl available from EMP (150 copies) & Nuclear Blast (150 copies)

–Red vinyl available from Enforced (limited to 300 copies)

–Digital album

“We didn’t overthink anything,” says Enforced front-man Knox Colby, describing the ethic that went into the making of the Richmond, Virginia-based quintet’s third album, War Remains. “It’s all very straight forward, no bells and whistles production-wise. It’s almost ten minutes shorter than our last record and packs ten times more of a punch.”

Blazing out of the pandemic, Enforced carved a trail throughout North America and Europe, sharing stages with the likes of Obituary, Municipal Waste and Exhumed as well as festivals like Maryland Deathfest and France’s Hellfest. With that bloodied road behind them, Enforced set metallic standard with their power-of-the-riff-wreck-your-neck take on classic thrash and crossover hardcore from the same pissed-off hometown womb that had given the world the likes of GWAR and Lamb of God.

Teaming with Richmond-based producer, Ricky Olson, with mixing help from Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Kreator), the band delivered on every iota of extreme aggression they’ve flexed since their inception in 2016. War Remains is the sound of Enforced pushing themselves to the next level: a serrated-edge classic. “It has the intensity of ‘At the Walls’ (2019) but is more mature than ‘Kill Grid’ (2021),” Colby explains. “It has that tenacity of us live. It spills through the record. If you’re a fan of really aggressive music, you’re gonna love it. It’s seething!”

War Remains track-listing:

1. Aggressive Menace

2. The Quickening

3. Hanged by My Hand

4. Avarice

5. War Remains

6. Mercy Killing Fields

7. Nation of Fear

8. Ultra-Violence

9. Starve

10. Empire

Night Demon reveals details for new concept album “OUTSIDER”

Launches first single/video for title track; announces USA tour with Satan, Haunt

On March 17th, Ventura, California’s heavy metal institution Night Demon return with their third full-length, OUTSIDER, via Century Media Records. For a first preview of OUTSIDER, the album’s title track can be streamed now here; the video (directed by Oliver Barth) can be seen below:

Regarding OUTSIDER, Jarvis Leatherby (Vocals / Bass) recently commented as follows to Decibel Magazine: “Most bands will always tell you that their newest album is the best…I completely understand why bands say that sort of thing, and I do agree that if you’re not pushing yourself to be better on the next release, then you should just quit. However, I think it’s up to the listener to ultimately decide this, and it’s all subjective. ‘OUTSIDER‘ is by far the most Night Demon has ever extended ourselves, and for that I am so proud and artistically fulfilled.”

Alan Grnja (vocals) comments: “The inspiration for that came from animated shows in the 90s where Spider Man would team up with X-Men and stuff like that! We did that on a track in 2020 called ‘Argent Debt’ where we had five other people. We were inspired by being on tour in America and so many of us jumping up onstage and playing together. Every vocalist on this track sounds unique. It’s a bright, colorful rainbow of Deathcore singers!”

Distant has become one of the prominent faces of European Deathcore. Melding together brutal death metal, slam, noise and beatdown with a hyper-dissonant orchestra of impending doom, they’ve come eons since their origins as metalcore obsessed friends in Rotterdam and Bratislava. Heritage, the quintet’s Century Media debut and third installment of bone crushing, thick-as-concrete heaviness, takes their trademark “Downtempo/Deathcore” and pushes it into the red. “It’s low and slow,” smirks vocalist Alan Grnja, describing the band’s sound. “Musically, lyrically, we try to travel the uncharted and come up with something you can only call Distant.

Produced by the band’s guitarist Nouri Yetgin and Within Destruction guitarist Howard Fang plus co-producer Simone Pietroforte, Heritage is Distant‘s coming of age and reckoning moment. “This is the perfect Distant record,” says Alan. “I want it to be a genre-defining album in the same way ‘The Cleansing’ was for Suicide Silence – I would say this album is for us.”

Heritage track-listing:

1. Acid Rain

2. Paradigm Shift

3. Born Of Blood

4. The Grief Manifest

5. Exofilth

6. Argent Justice

7. The Gnostic Uprising

8. A Sentence To Suffer

9. Human Scum

10. Heritage

11. Orphan Of Blight

12. Plaguebreeder

Soon after Heritage‘s release, Distant will join Bodysnatcher, Angelmaker, and Paleface (all guests on “Argent Justice”!) for a tour across the USA throughout March. See below for all dates!

JESUS PIECE Sign To Century Media and Reveal New Single / Video “An Offering To The Night”

ESUS PIECE isn’t merely the sum of its parts. It’s the nexus for an explosive creative chemistry between the bands’ five founding members who have channeled their love for old school metalcore, hardcore and death metal into a sound that’s as furious as it is oblique. The band gallantly broke into the scene in 2015, turning heads for their frantic, feral live shows and grandiose, melodic songwriting which has since cemented them as standard stirrers and boundary-breakers.

Today they return to announce that they’ve signed with Century Media Records to bring listeners the next era of Jesus Piece, alongside the first piece of new music since their highly acclaimed debut, Only Self (2018).

“An Offering To The Night” is caustic and an exercise in tension-and-release riffage from the guitar team of David Updike and John DiStefano. Bassist Anthony Marinaro and drummer Luis Aponte (LU2K)’s groove-work is as off-kilter as it is distinct and bombastic. At the heart of it all, vocalist Aaron Heard brings the pain with blunt force mental trauma.

The single is a spectacular preview into Jesus Piece’s second act and a passage to something more intense and personal for the five Pennsylvania natives. “An Offering To The Night” is available today on all digital platforms via Century Media and comes alongside a raw video directed by Eric Richter.

Come February/March, they hit the road for an extensive North American tour with peers Show Me The Body, Scowl and ZULU. Highlights include Brooklyn Steel, Los Angeles’ Regent Theatre, Metro in Chicago, The Mohawk in Austin, with a hometown show at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer to kick it all off. SIGNS OF THE SWARM Release New Track and Video for “Unbridled”

American deathcore band SIGNS OF THE SWARM release their new song and music video for “Unbridled” today via their new label home Century Media Records. Purchase and stream the track, HERE, and watch the video below.

SIGNS OF THE SWARM states, “To commemorate our signing with Century Media, we wanted to offer something truly special – ‘Unbridled’.

This track is a taste of everything that we have to offer, reaching for new levels of intensity and keeping what makes us SOTS. If you like riffs, blast beats, and breakdowns don’t skip this one.

Lyrically, we want to reach out to our fans from a different perspective in hopes that the song pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Channeling fear, aggression and defeat into a single track, “Unbridled” is a violent and energetic piece that we expect you to bang your head to.”

Just last week, SIGNS OF THE SWARM announced signing to their new label home Century Media Records stating, “For SOTS, 2021-2022 has been a time of growth and change. We released our latest record last year and knew that we had to hit the road hard. Since that time we’ve performed over 200 times in at least 15 countries, which gave us a very unique opportunity. The band went out searching for the perfect fit to match our vision, and once we met with the Century Media team it was an instant sync.

We chose this time to announce our partnership – after we completed our hefty tour schedule around the globe and joined forces with GoodFight MGMT – so that we can bring you the very best that we have to offer. With that said, we are pleased to release our latest single and music video, “Unbridled” to celebrate this next chapter of Signs of the Swarm!

With a bright future in sight, we are proud to be a part of the Century Media family and cannot wait to show you more of what we have been up to.”

Pittsburgh’s Signs of the Swarm aren’t just any band, they’re a once-a-generation beacon that radiates the sounds that surrounded them, preserving history by reframing it. On their fourth LP, Absolvere, they’re bleak without being blackened, smashing without being slam, and downtempo as a choice rather than a stylistic confine. And as many of their deathcore peers experiment with adding singing, often gruff in tone, they add a more ethereal style that soothes.

The band contrasts that with some of the most brutal moments in their eight-year career, with riffs more punishing than pensive and a rhythm section that frames them in creatively cacophonic ways. Above it all, they’re utilizing vocalist David Simonich monstrous range in a much fuller capacity than on his debut, 2019’s Vital Deprivation. That transitional album found the band experimenting to re-find their footing, which here lands on solid ground through the addition of guitarist Jeff Russo, a former bandmate of Simonich’s Improvidence. The proof is in the placing, with Absolvere landing at #15 on “Current Hard Music Albums,” #21 on “Top New Artist Albums” and #139 on “Heatseekers.”

Indeed, sometimes contrast can be a perfect complement, but more often that effect is achieved when paired with something more in-line. So it is when Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent) and Alex Erian (Despised Icon) join the band for growls and shouts, where Signs of the Swarm filter their guests’ bands through their own sound. Instead of taking away from their identity, it expands it.

They’re steadily expanding their global reach, too. In the few short months since Absolvere’s release, Signs of the Swarm have toured with the likes of Fit for an Autopsy, Born of Osiris and Shadow of Intent. Forthcoming domination campaigns of Europe and Australia will be added to their tenure with Aborted, Lorna Shore, Brand of Sacrifice and more. Forget the signs, the swarm is already here, and it’s growing larger and louder every day.
