LIVE REVIEW: WE CAME AS ROMANS DARKBLOOM TOUR 2023

As is customary for We Came As Romans, they finished off their first tour of 2023 in Detroit, MI. They were out promoting their newest release, Darkbloom. In their first tour of the year they brought along ERRA and Brand of Sacrifice.

Written by Jessica Trail

The first band of the night was Brand of Sacrifice. They are a deathcore band with a dash of technical metal from Toronto and Manhattan, New York.  They started out their brutal seven-song set with “Dawn” from their album Lifeblood. They are made-up of Kyle Anderson on harsh and clean vocals, Liam Beeson on guitar, Andrew Kim on bass, and Mike Caputo on drums. They continued playing songs from the 2021 album and then stirred up the already enthusiastic crowd with the 2022 single “Exodus.”  They closed out the set with opening track from their 2018 album The Interstice. This was a great ending to a ferocious set.

Up next was the metalcore band, ERRA, from Birmingham, Alabama. They started the night with the very popular single, “Pull from the Ghost.” The moshing and crowd-surfing starting as soon as they started playing. By the time their second song, “House of Glass” started there was a steady stream of crowd surfers pouring over the barricade. To say that the crowd was into ERRA would me a massive understatement.

ERRA is made up of JT Cavey on harsh vocals, Jesse Cash on lead guitar and clean vocals, Conor Hesse on bass, Clint Tustin on rhythm guitar, and Alex Ballew on drums. These guys have a big year ahead of them still with heading out on their own headlining Europe tour just 6 days after ending the tour with We Came As Romans. They will then head out with Bad Omens to support their Will We Both Go Home Alive tour starting in May.

After a short pause for changeover, it was time for the headliner, We Came As Romans, to take the stage. After 23 shows in 31 days the band, from Troy, Michigan, had finally made it to their hometown for the last show of the tour. They started the night with three songs from their newest album, Darkbloom. They continued with “Lost in the Moment” from the 2017 album, Cold Like War. Before starting in on “Wasted Ages” from the same album they took a pause to talk to the audience. “Somewhere along the way on that record, we lost track of who we were as a band…. We reached out to people who we knew we could trust. People who had been there for us since day one… for a band that is our fan base. You guys helped us start to put the pieces back together… I just wanted to say thank you for that!”

Before starting “Tracing Back Roots” from the album of the same name, they let the audience know that they opened up an online poll for the audience to pick a song for the set. After that song and “Hope,” from the Tracing Back Roots album singer, Dave Stephens announced that “Fade Away” won the poll. He continued with saying, “this song goes out to my mom. It is her favorite.” They then continued the night with one more song from Cold Like War. They then closed out the main portion of the set with “Darkbloom” before coming back out with Brand of Sacrifice to perform “Darkbloom” again as an encore before ending the night and tour with “Black Hole.”

ENTERPRISE EARTH Crushing New Video/Single “Death Magick” Now Playing

Band To Kick Off European Tour With Shadow Of Intent

Progressive deathcore outfit ENTERPRISE EARTH today unleashes a brand new song entitled “Death Magick.” The lengthy track stands among the band’s darkest, most relentless and plainly scathing songs of their extensive sonic arsenal.

Offers ENTERPRISE EARTH guitarist Gabe Mangold, “We are very excited to present our heaviest, most aggressive, and unforgivingly wild track to date, ‘Death Magick.’ We pulled from all of our heavy influences to create a seven-minute roller coaster of a death metal song. This is also the first of two singles releasing this month so keep an eye out for the second soon!”

The release of “Death Magick” comes in advance of ENTERPRISE EARTH’s upcoming European tour supporting Shadow Of Intent. The Elegy tour kicks off January 6th in Wiesbaden, Germany and runs through February 1st in Karlsruhe, Germany. Additional support will be provided by AngelMaker and To The Grave. ENTERPRISE EARTH’s most recent full-length, The Chosen, was released last January via MNRK Heavy. Distorted Sound crowned The Chosen the band’s, “heaviest album to date,” noting it’s both a “physically grabbing album, but also emotionally battering.” Blabbermouth hailed a record that’s “huge and definitive,” MetalSucks lauded “the most vicious, the most technical, and… the catchiest offering in the band’s already-impressive repertoire,” Metal Injection championed the band’s “signature heartfelt, emotive lyrics,” while New Transcendence commended, “the most memorable ENTERPRISE EARTH release to date.” The Chosen continues to amaze fans and critics globally.

The Chosen is available on CD, LP, cassette, and digitally. Find ordering options at THIS LOCATION where the record can be streamed in full.

BRAND OF SACRIFICE Drop New Track “Exodus”

Canadian deathcore wrecking crew, BRAND OF SACRIFICE, have dropped their first new music in over a year with the release of brand new track “Exodus“. The phenomenal new single marks the beginning of a new chapter of BRAND OF SACRIFICE, maintaining their signature brutality and complexity, but upping it to a whole new level with a few surprises thrown in. Find the track on streaming platforms HERE and watch the accompanying masterpiece of a music video below.

Speaking on the brand new track, BRAND OF SACRIFICE frontman, Kyle Anderson adds

“We’re so excited to unveil the next chapter of Brand of Sacrifice! Exodus examines the darkest aspects of what we as humans are capable of, coming from the standpoint of a fearless leader.

From the eyes of his brother and comrade, we witness an ability to survive and push forward when what he loves most is stolen right before his eyes by the one he looked up to and relied on. Trust can be earned, respect can be dished out, and loyalty is demonstrated. Betraying any of those, loses you the three.”

The band recently announced that they will be hitting the road in January of next year with We Came As Romans on their Darkbloom 2023 Tour. For further info and tickets, head to brandofsacrifice.com

ABOUT BRAND OF SACRIFICE

Since 2018, Toronto-based deathcore quintet BRAND OF SACRIFICE have been imprinting their mark on the heavy music scene. Dubbed ‘The Branded Ones,’ the group’s fans joined and marched with them as they tore across the globe in support of their sophomore album “Lifeblood”, which debuted on 8 separate Billboard charts and earned them a Juno nomination for Metal Album of the Year. Other highlights included slots on highly anticipated tours with artists like Spiritbox, Thy Art is Murder, We Came as Romans & more.

BRAND OF SACRIFICE have pushed the envelope even further with their next release ‘Exodus’. With production even more cinematic, exemplified by massive choral soundscapes, brutal breakdowns, and quite few surprises along the way, the single is an exceptional evolution of their sound. Across their releases to date, BRAND OF SACRIFICE have hit 50 million streams and 10 million YouTube views.

The band draws its name from popular anime series Berserk by Kentaro Miura.

Fans at any BRAND OF SACRIFICE show will be familiar with set-closer “Eclipse” and its ending chant of, “Welcome to the new age.” With “Exodus”, it’s evident the band have ushered in yet another, even fresher era from which there is no turning back.

Deathcore act Unholy Harakiri releases full length “Ketsuro”

Ketsuro was born along with Unholy Harakiri herself, amid the pandemic and one of the most difficult moments in Brazilian politics. The band brings here a little of all the references that we have lived, not only in terms of music but also in the content of each track, which address themes related to Japanese and Brazilian culture and personal and social conflicts.

“Ketsuro” is the bloody path we’ve come this far and we’re sure many of you will relate to it too. It has been difficult times but we will win together. Listen to “Ketsuro”:https://found.ee/ketsuro

Formed in 2020, Unholy Harakiri has a mix between members of two underground metal bands, Yukio Hara, Guitarist and Raphael Gonçalves, Bassist (Ex-Colwire) and Maikon Campioni, Vocal (Athimia). The band’s proposal is to reinvent the Brazilian metal scene mixing a lot of weight, low tunings and a pinch of Asian culture, futuristic themes and cyberpunk.

In December 2020, the first single “Rakuin” is released by the Coffin Joe Records label, which features the opening track “Stigma (Rakuin)” and “Bloody Path” accompanying an Anime Music Video with scenes from the anime Berserk (Kentaro Miura) 1997, illustrating the song’s theme.

In 2022, the singles K I N T S U G I and Penumbra were released. With this debut, the band guaranteed good numbers in their media and streaming profiles, and their full album is now released on all streaming platforms, in order to start planning the launch tour.

SIGNS OF THE SWARM Release New Track and Video for “Unbridled”

American deathcore band SIGNS OF THE SWARM release their new song and music video for “Unbridled” today via their new label home Century Media Records. Purchase and stream the track, HERE, and watch the video below.

SIGNS OF THE SWARM states, “To commemorate our signing with Century Media, we wanted to offer something truly special – ‘Unbridled’.

This track is a taste of everything that we have to offer, reaching for new levels of intensity and keeping what makes us SOTS. If you like riffs, blast beats, and breakdowns don’t skip this one.

Lyrically, we want to reach out to our fans from a different perspective in hopes that the song pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Channeling fear, aggression and defeat into a single track, “Unbridled” is a violent and energetic piece that we expect you to bang your head to.”

Just last week, SIGNS OF THE SWARM announced signing to their new label home Century Media Records stating, “For SOTS, 2021-2022 has been a time of growth and change. We released our latest record last year and knew that we had to hit the road hard. Since that time we’ve performed over 200 times in at least 15 countries, which gave us a very unique opportunity. The band went out searching for the perfect fit to match our vision, and once we met with the Century Media team it was an instant sync.

We chose this time to announce our partnership – after we completed our hefty tour schedule around the globe and joined forces with GoodFight MGMT – so that we can bring you the very best that we have to offer. With that said, we are pleased to release our latest single and music video, “Unbridled” to celebrate this next chapter of Signs of the Swarm!

With a bright future in sight, we are proud to be a part of the Century Media family and cannot wait to show you more of what we have been up to.”

Pittsburgh’s Signs of the Swarm aren’t just any band, they’re a once-a-generation beacon that radiates the sounds that surrounded them, preserving history by reframing it. On their fourth LP, Absolvere, they’re bleak without being blackened, smashing without being slam, and downtempo as a choice rather than a stylistic confine. And as many of their deathcore peers experiment with adding singing, often gruff in tone, they add a more ethereal style that soothes.

The band contrasts that with some of the most brutal moments in their eight-year career, with riffs more punishing than pensive and a rhythm section that frames them in creatively cacophonic ways. Above it all, they’re utilizing vocalist David Simonich monstrous range in a much fuller capacity than on his debut, 2019’s Vital Deprivation. That transitional album found the band experimenting to re-find their footing, which here lands on solid ground through the addition of guitarist Jeff Russo, a former bandmate of Simonich’s Improvidence. The proof is in the placing, with Absolvere landing at #15 on “Current Hard Music Albums,” #21 on “Top New Artist Albums” and #139 on “Heatseekers.”

Indeed, sometimes contrast can be a perfect complement, but more often that effect is achieved when paired with something more in-line. So it is when Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent) and Alex Erian (Despised Icon) join the band for growls and shouts, where Signs of the Swarm filter their guests’ bands through their own sound. Instead of taking away from their identity, it expands it.

They’re steadily expanding their global reach, too. In the few short months since Absolvere’s release, Signs of the Swarm have toured with the likes of Fit for an Autopsy, Born of Osiris and Shadow of Intent. Forthcoming domination campaigns of Europe and Australia will be added to their tenure with Aborted, Lorna Shore, Brand of Sacrifice and more. Forget the signs, the swarm is already here, and it’s growing larger and louder every day.

DISTANT Signs To Century Media Records

Century Media Records is thrilled to announce the signing of DISTANT, the multinational juggernaut that emerged from Rotterdam, The Netherlands as well as from Bratislava, Slovakia.
