CANNIBAL CORPSE Premieres Unsettling New Video For “Chaos Horrific” Title Track

Record Out Now On Metal Blade Records + Band Kicks Off North American Co-Headlining Tour With Mayhem

Death metal icons CANNIBAL CORPSE premiere their unsettling new video for “Chaos Horrific,” the title track of their crushing sixteenth studio album, out TODAY on Metal Blade Records!

Since 1988, CANNIBAL CORPSE has remained at the forefront of death metal, shaping and defining the genre. In 2021, they raised the stakes again with their Violence Unimagined. This year, they return with its successor, the equally monstrous Chaos Horrific, consequently beginning the next chapter in their legacy. Produced again by guitarist Erik Rutan, who has now produced six of the band’s albums, Chaos Horrific is, without question. a full-on, CANNIBAL-style death metal outing, straight down to the themes, which include zombie warfare, resetting the human race through mass mutilations, and the violent revenge of victims of human trafficking, and its cover art by longtime collaborator Vince Locke.

With every track destined to go off like a proverbial bomb when played live, the band is primed and ready to destroy everything in their path. While 2023 is the band’s 35th anniversary, they’re mostly excited about the present and future. That said, Rutan sums up the band members’ feeling about the impressive milestone. “I think it’s such an amazing feat. It speaks to the work ethic and dedication that everyone has put into CANNIBAL CORPSE. When you think about how many bands never make it a decade, let alone three plus, it is such a testament to the creativity aspect and determination and loyalty toward what we do.”

In celebration of today’s release of Chaos Horrific, the band delivers a blood-soaked video for the record’s gruesome title track, directed by David Brodsky and produced by Allison Woest of My Good Eye: Music Visuals. Elaborates drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, “This song is about fighting for your life from a zombie attack. An axe, a knife, a machete. Whatever it takes to kill these things.”

ENTHEOS will be touring in support of their Time Will Take Us All full-length released earlier this year via Metal Blade Records. Pushing progressive death metal in ever more imaginative directions, ENTHEOS continues to stand apart from the pack, incorporating elements drawn from myriad genres – including death metal, groove, grunge, electronica, slam, gothic rock, jazz, prog and more.

“We knew when we started writing that we really wanted to make something darker and heavier that was still uniquely ENTHEOS, and we knew that we wanted to make a record that really came from our hearts and captured where we want to take this band,” explains vocalist Chaney Crabb.

“The new album also has a strong ‘trippy’ vibe, not in a generic sense but meaning when you are done listening to it you feel like you’ve gone on a journey,” adds multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis. “I’ve always loved albums that gave me that feeling. I can’t say we set out to have the experience, it just sort of happened and that’s something I’m proud of.”

Having stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, this has helped to streamline the band and allow the core members to make the music they want to with no compromise, which is clearly to their betterment. Koperweis – who takes the role of drummer in the band’s live lineup – has long written most of the guitar parts, so it was not a radically different writing process, but allowed him the freedom of complete control.

With Koperweis handling production duties and Mark Lewis (Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder) mixing the record, all of the drums were tracked by Zack Ohren at Castle Ultimate, and Koperweis tracked guitars and vocals. They also recruited former member Evan Brewer to supply the bass. Though committed to their status as a two-piece, the band does have a live lineup with Brian James (ex-Fallujah) and Robert Brown (ex-Slaughter To Prevail) providing guitar, maintaining their reputation for being a killer live band. Having delivered the best record of their career they are also in a very good place mentally, but they do not get ahead of themselves.

Capra drops new single/video, “Human Commodity” (feat. Walls Of Jericho’s Candace Puopolo)

prepares to kick-off USA tour next week

On October 6th, metallic hardcore outfit Capra will unleash their sophomore full-length, Errors, via Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media Records. Maintaining all the elements that made their 2021 debut so compelling – raucous energy, frantic riffs, the from-the-gut lyrics and soul-searing delivery of vocalist Crow Lotus – Capra has stepped things up on this record, with stronger songwriting and a determination to reach the next level. For a preview of Errors, the video for the new single “Human Commodity” (produced by Jai Benoit & Jerik Thibodaux, and feat. Walls Of Jericho‘s Candace Puopolo) can be viewed here:

Tyler Harper (guitar) comments: “We are so honored to have worked with Candace Puopolo on this track. I grew up listening to Walls of Jericho and they were always a major influence on my music. To have a legend involved with what we’re doing is such a rad feeling.”

The debut single, “Tied Up”, can also be heard at: https://blacklightmediarecords.com/capra/ – where the album can be pre-ordered in the following versions:

–CD

–red/white marble vinyl

–smoke vinyl

–digital album

Tracking in Estuary Recording Studios in Austin, Texas, with Andrew Hernandez, Errors was mixed by Taylor Young and mastered by Brad Boatright, the latter two having worked on In Transmission (2021). Guitarist Tyler Harper comments, “I knew that I wanted it to pick up where the first album left off, but that it needed to have an entirely new attitude. If you listen to the last song from ‘In Transmission‘ into the first song on ‘Errors’, it’s a continuation. From there the album steers off into a direction that still feels similar, but is new.” Coming primarily from a hardcore background, giving listeners a sense of nostalgia for the sounds of the late 90’s and early 2000’s hardcore and punk scenes, but also incorporating elements of metal that complement the overall tone, everything the band does on Errors resonates with emotion; nothing is forced.

For collaborations, Capra recruited Walls Of Jericho vocalist Candace Puopolo to add her inimitable tones to “Human Commodity,” while their friend Dustin Coffman from Glassing added backing vocals to a handful of tracks. Producer Hernandez also added some piano to “Nora,” which closes out the album in a very different manner than anything they’ve previously explored. In a complete juxtaposition to the tracks that precede it, “Nora” is atmospheric and lithe, delicate and haunting. “I’ve always wanted to show a prettier/lighter side to this band where it’s not always aggressive,” says Harper. “Life is a rollercoaster and sometimes you need to throw some pretty piano into it.” Since Capra‘s inception, Harper has always envisaged each album being a continuation of the last, and then breaking it off into its own journey, seeing “Nora” as “a fun way to start album three!”

Until then, the band will tour like the road warriors they have become, bringing Errors to North America and overseas (see below for all upcoming dates). Capra are eager to bond with fans new and old. Lotus explains that crucial connection: “Care about us because we care about you. And because we are a part of creating something our community can be proud of.”

ASINHELL unleash “Desert Of Doom” single

DEBUT ALBUM IMPII HORA OUT SEPTEMBER 29 VIA METAL BLADE RECORDS

For more than 20 years, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been spearheading Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, releasing eight full-lengths, selling millions of albums, and filling stadiums worldwide. Before fronting Volbeat, however, Poulsen formed death metal band Dominus, which recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid ’90s. When Poulsen was putting together songs for Volbeat‘s 2021 album, Servant Of The Mind, he wrote a bunch of death metal riffs and saved them on his phone. Then, when he was done with the Volbeat record, he reopened the rusty gates to Armageddon and started putting together songs for his new death metal band Asinhell, whose debut album Impii Hora (Latin for Ungodly Hour), is a tribute to Poulsen‘s favourite old-school groups.

Impii Hora will be released September 29th via Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared new song “Desert Of Doom” and its official video. Watch it below.

“‘Desert Of Doom’ was inspired by Bolt Thrower, Death, Entombed, and Motörhead. Bang your head ’til it doesn’t bang no more!,” says Poulsen.

Poulsen has rekindled the death metal fire that fuelled his first band Dominus. He began jamming on riffs with long-time friend and neighbour, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy). The two started playing in Morten’s tiny garage: no mics, no P.A. — just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up like they used when they were teenagers. Soon, the pair were completing a new song every time they got together. When it came time to add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend, who also happened to be one of his all-time favourite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).

“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat,” Grewe says. “Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Yes, of course!'”

With Asinhell fully formed, the three convened with Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. When it was time to add lead guitar to the album, Michael looked no further than friend and The Arcane Order axeman Flemming C. Lund.

DOWNFALL OF GAIA To Release “Silhouettes Of Disgust” March 17th On Metal Blade Records

“Bodies As Driftwood” Video Now Playing + Preorders Available

Germany’s DOWNFALL OF GAIA will release their sixth studio album, Silhouettes Of Disgust, March 17th via Metal Blade Records, today unveiling the record’s cover art, track listing, and stunning first single.

Over the course of fifteen years, DOWNFALL OF GAIA has carved a unique space for themselves within the metal scene, evolving naturally and unafraid to take risks. With Silhouettes Of Disgust they progress in part by looking backwards and returning to familiar territory. The result is best described as a textured, dynamic blend of crust punk and post-black metal with a lot of atmospheric elements, taking everything that ever made the band compelling and pushing it in new and gripping directions. With the return of guitarist Peter Wolff, who left the band in 2015 to focus on family and other pursuits, the writing process was much more streamlined than the sixteen months spent penning 2019’s Ethic Of Radical Finitude. “We started in October of 2021 and went into the studio in April of 2022,” notes vocalist/guitarist Dominik Goncalves dos Reis. “Having Peter back — who founded DOWNFALL OF GAIA together with bassist/vocalist Anton [Lisovoj] and I in 2008 — was the big difference this time. For Ethic Of Radical Finitude And Atrophy (2016), I prepared all the guitars by myself before the four of us started working on all the details, which is a much longer way of working than doing everything as a couple.”

Wanting to keep things short and simple but straight in the listener’s face, the record does not feature the eight- to ten-minute epics of their more recent releases and is indeed punchier, with a lot of classic d-beat drumming driving the action, as on opener “Existence Of Awe” and the surging “Unredeemable.” They have also expanded their sonic palette with the inclusion of synths for the first time, and female vocals courtesy of Lulu Black, who collaborates with drummer Michael Kadnar in industrial/gothic project This Is Oblivion, making her voice familiar to the band members.

The album title, Silhouettes Of Disgust, is derived from the narratives driving the songs, focusing on the stories of eight different people, as residents of a fictional metropolis, each with their own worries and struggles. “Loneliness, addiction, the fear of tomorrow, pressure from society/work and others, things that many of us probably know all too well,” explains Goncalves dos Reis. “You have to play along somehow, or you fall through the cracks, and once you’re down, it’s hard to get back up. It looks at selfishness and ignorance, the general way of dealing with each other – you’re one, surrounded by millions, surrounded by all these silhouettes of disgust, surrounded by the things you want to avoid and hate. The last few years have impressively proven what you can expect from humanity, and honestly, it’s not much.”

In advance of the record’s release, today the band unveils a video for first single, “Bodies As Driftwood.” Offers Goncalves dos Reis of the track, “‘Bodies As Driftwood’ tells the story of a fictional person in a fictional big city who, under the cover of night, can finally be herself and escape the ever-increasing malaise of everyday life. Hopes and dreams quickly give way to reality and threaten to break down due to outside pressures: Unpaid bills, problems at work, no social network, loneliness, no help, total overwhelm in a constantly accelerating zeitgeist… But at night she feels free – no punishing glances from others, no outside pressure, no stress, no expectations, just herself in the darkness while the world sleeps. Metaphorically speaking, this person uses the darkness of the night as a protective veil. Although this person is surrounded by millions every day, she experiences absolute loneliness on a daily basis.”

Silhouettes Of Disgust will be released on CD, LP, and digitally. Find preorders at: metalblade.com/downfallofgaia.

Silhouettes Of Disgust Track Listing:

1. Existence Of Awe

2. The Whir Of Flies

3. While Bloodsprings Become Rivers

4. Bodies As Driftwood

5. Eyes To Burning Skies

6. Final Vows

7. Unredeemable

8. Optograms Of Disgust

Silhouettes Of Disgust was initially slated to be recorded with producer Timo Höcke at Die Wellenschmiede studio in Hamburg, however a few days before recording was due to commence, Höcke unfortunately contracted Covid. “Due to schedules, family matters and private life, the planned time frame was the only chance to record the album without losing several months, so with drums tracked in New Jersey at Backroom Studios together with Kevin Antreassian, we ended up recording the rest of the album alone in Peter [Wolff]’s studio in Hamburg. After recording guitars, bass, and vocals we went to Die Wellenschmiede for one day — as it was actually planned — and re-amped our own recordings, with Timo handling the mix and Jonas Romann (Chaos Compressor Club) mastering the record.” The record comes adorned in the cover art of Wolff and Goncalves dos Reis.

DOWNFALL OF GAIA:

Dominik Goncalves dos Reis – vocals, guitars

Peter Wolff – guitars, vocals

Anton Lisovoj – bass, vocals

Michael Kadnar – drums

GOATWHORE Unveils Video For “Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven” Title Track

Album Out Now On Metal Blade Records

Blackened death thrash practitioners GOATWHORE released their long-awaited new full-length, Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven, last Friday via Metal Blade Records. In celebration of its release, today the band is pleased to unveil their new video for the record’s title track.

Trooping into their twenty-fifth year as conjurors of the most ruthless extreme metal, with Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven GOATWHORE spews forth forty-seven decimating minutes of the band’s trademark brew of death, black, thrash, and classic metal delivered with breathless intensity and an unapologetic bloodlust.

With the band’s multifaceted title track, vocalist Louis B. Falgoust II ventured into an idea of emotional despondency within older texts and writings, feeling like several of these writings missed an element of human nature/emotion. “The basic laws and rules guided by simple aspects of good and evil and the emotional/mental journey in which people would have to traverse them. Life is simple, but very complex when coming to the relationships of numerous people together and their paths crossing. The idea was spawned from delving into my own idea behind the relationship of Judas and Jesus, reading various writings on the topic, from the basic ones we all have heard to the forbidden concepts like the Gospels Of Judas. It’s also about the idea of doing something you may think is positive or beneficial, but it only ends up putting you in a more negative foundation, and this abstraction can send a person into a very dark place. Life around you begins to crumble and the thoughts become more askew. The title is more of a metaphor embracing this idea.”

Unquestionably their fiercest, most accomplished album to date in sound, concept, and execution, the twelve-track Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven stands among the most volatile and plainly dangerous records to come out of 2022. “Angels… consistently rages without ever devolving into the samey sounding banality that plagues so many less adept practitioners,” writes Decibel Magazine in a 9/10 review of the record, adding accurately, “Angels… just gets better the longer it plays.” In a 4.5/5 rating, MetalSucks concurs, “Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven reeks of all-American sweat and grime while giving you a taste of authentic European flavor. It fuses death metal with the mysticism and other hallmarks of black metal, adds in some NOLA soul, injects adrenaline-fueled thrash elements, and builds upon the backbone of classic metal.” In another 9/10 score, Blabbermouth hails the band’s, “most diverse, epic and savage release all at once an impressive feat for any band this deep into its career.”

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven was produced by Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349), who handled the band’s Vengeful Ascension full-length, and tracked primarily at Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana under pandemic restrictions. Additionally, the band recruited acclaimed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Gatecreeper, Code Orange) to mix the record with final mastering duties handled by Grammy-award winning engineer Ted Jensen (Ghost, Gojira, Cult Of Luna). The record is tied together by the art of longtime collaborator Jordan Barlow whose cryptic use of sigils holds deeper meaning to the record’s whole.
