LIVE REVIEW: COLONY HOUSE THE CANNONBALLERS TOUR 2023

Indie Rock stars Colony House are in the midst of their 2023 The Cannonballers Tour across America. They are supported on this tour by indie rock newcomers little image from Texas. While little image are slated to release their debut album “Self-Titled” on May 12th of this year, Colony House released their fourth studio album “The Cannonballers” this past month. Yesterday on March 7th Colony House and little image played a show in New York City’s Irving Plaza.

While I did miss little image performance just catching up on last chords of the last song, fans in audience were satisfied by what they saw and heard and let’s say were all warmed up for Colony House, while finding their best attraction in bouncing around the beach ball while waiting for the stage to be set up and wildly cheering up on every successful high bounce.

Stage décor was set heavily to emphasize the new album as the drum set has The Cannonballers written on and in the background band had a big neon silhouette of the boy jumping into the water like a cannonball.

Colony House came on stage with great amount of energy with their smash single “Landlocked Surf Rock” from their new album followed by another single “Would Ya Could Ya”. These two marked two out of eight songs Colony House played from The Cannonballers album, which was only three shy from the whole thing, and maybe I am wrong as I believe they included one more song later in the sort of a medley. Even though these are new songs the crowd sang them along as they would with established hits. Both brothers Caleb Chapman (vocals) and Will Chapman (drums) were performing with attitude of the hard rock band while Scott Mills on guitar and Parke Cottrell on bass were seemingly more laid back.

The rest of their set touched rest of their albums and Rotten Tomatoes EP. For me this was a rare insight into indie rock live show, and I must admit I had a pleasant time. Music and mood are mostly upbeat and positive, which is what we desperately need these days.

Band wrapped up their set with title song from The Cannonballers and their smash hit “You Know It” from their 2017 album Only The Lonely.

There is still a lot more time left to experience Colony House live as the tour will continue into the April.

Colony House releases single with Bonnaro announcement, new album out soon

The music of Colony House—an indie rock band made up of brothers Will and Caleb Chapman, as well as Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell—is playfully self-described as “landlocked surf rock.” Their personal genre designation is as much inspired by their hometown of Franklin, Tenn., as their new album The Cannonballers is: within 11 tracks, the band delves into where they come from and how a place, and its memories, have made them.

“It’s too easy getting sucked into the grind of everyday life… the hustle and the hurry we all willingly subject ourselves to,” Caleb says of the newest single. “‘Would Ya Could Ya’ is about breaking the mold. At surface level, it’s a ‘let’s get outta here’ open road, never look back type of cruiser, but beneath the surface, I think it recognizes that we are often the obstacle standing in our own way and that it’s up to us to make the next move.”

Following the February 3rd release of The Cannonballers, Colony House will embark on a national tour, kicking off on February 11th at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

The Cannonballers marks the band’s fourth full-length release: their three previous studio collections take listeners on a journey through stories of loss, grief, and heartbreak while welcoming them into the hope that comes on the other side. Their 2014 debut, When I Was Younger, included the single “Silhouettes,” which became the #1 most played track on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation for four months straight. Only The Lonely, whose title and demeanor pay tribute to the vintage sounds of Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys, followed in 2017. The surf-rock hit, “You Know It,” went viral on Tik Tok, and has amassed 100 million streams across all platforms to date, after being featured as the soundtrack to Samsung Mobile’s nationwide ad campaign.

Leave What’s Left Behind was released in January of 2020; the band managed to play half of their 40 city headline tour before being forced to pause alongside the rest of the world. Like many touring artists, they found different ways to continue to create, producing and directing a full-length feature film, “Everybody’s Looking For Some Light,” which was an official selection at the Nashville and Knoxville Film Festivals. The movie debuted at a two-day drive-in event produced by the band at Greystone Quarry in Franklin, TN. Over 2,000 people (in over 600 cars) showed up to watch the film and see Colony House perform.

The band has performed their songs for worldwide audiences with two appearances on both Late Night with Seth Meyers and CONAN, as well as The Today Show, VH1’s “Morning Buzz,” and MTV Live. They have also been part of several festival lineups including Shaky Knees, Austin City Limits, Firefly, WonderBus, and Lollapalooza. 2023 will see them adding Bonnaroo to that already impressive list.

The Cannonballers is an apt addition to the band’s catalog, staying true to what Colony House does best, and expanding on what their fans have gravitated to for the past decade: hope and light in the midst of it all. No frills, no gimmicks. Just heart-level rock and roll music.

The Cannonballers is now available to PRE-SAVE and will be out everywhere on February 3rd, 2023.

Colony House announces album and new single “Landlocked Surf Rock”

And announces national tour for 2023

Nashville-based rock band, Colony House, has announced their fourth full-length studio album, The Cannonballers, out February 3rd, 2023. The news is accompanied by the release of the single, “Landlocked Surf Rock,” an apt description of the band’s signature sound and a tribute to their home state of Tennessee.

“We’ve always struggled to put a label on Colony House or at least be defined by one singular genre… That was until we uncovered this one minute and fifty-four-second little ditty,” frontman Caleb Chapman explains. “With half of us being Nashville natives and all of us being Tennessee natives, we wanted to write a love letter to our hometown and all of its charm and all of its absurdities. ‘LandLocked Surf Rock’ is our ‘Sweet Home Alabama’… There, I said it.”

Caleb was inspired to write the songs that became The Cannonballers while being locked down at home in 2020. “The pandemic was the first time since high school that I had been off the road for an entire year. We got to see the seasons change and experience our home again for the first time in a long time,” he says. “I think I was falling back in love with Tennessee and realizing how special it is to be born and raised in such a beautiful place.”

Comprised of Caleb Chapman (vocals, guitar), his brother Will Chapman (drums), Scott Mills (guitar), and Parke Cottrell (bass), Colony House has continued to unite fans under its banner of hope and light in a world that feels more divided every day. No frills, no gimmicks. Just heart-level rock and roll music. The Colony House catalog is as weighty and intelligent as it is light and approachable. Three previously released studio albums invite the listener on a journey through stories of loss, grief, and heartbreak while welcoming them into the hope that comes on the other side. Their 2014 debut, When I Was Younger, included the instantly popular single “Silhouettes,” which became the #1 most played track on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation for four months straight. The band followed with their sophomore album, Only the Lonely, whose title and demeanor pay tribute to the vintage sounds of Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys. The surf-rock hit, “You Know It,” reached mega-viral status on Tik Tok, and has vaulted to over 100 million streams across all platforms after being featured as the soundtrack to Samsung Mobile’s nationwide ad campaign. The band has performed their songs for worldwide audiences with two appearances on both Late Night with Seth Meyers and CONAN, as well as The Today Show, VH1’s “Morning Buzz,” and MTV Live.

The band’s third effort, Leave What’s Lost Behind, was released in January of 2020, before a global pandemic would challenge listeners to do just that. They managed to make it through half of their headline tour before being forced to pause alongside the rest of the world. Like many artists, they found different ways to continue to create. In addition to beginning work on The Cannonballers, Colony House produced and directed a full-length feature film, Everybody’s Looking For Some Light, which was an official selection at the Nashville and Knoxville Film Festivals. The movie debuted at a two-day drive-in event produced by the band at Greystone Quarry in Franklin, TN. Over 2,000 people (in over 600 cars) showed up to watch the film and see Colony House perform.

Last year saw the release of Colony House Live, Vol. 1, and the EP, Rotten Tomatoes. In support of that EP, they were able to return to the road, headlining 30 dates in the US before their first overseas headline tour in 2022. They have also been part of several festival lineups, including Shaky Knees, Austin City Limits, Firefly, WonderBus, and Lollapalooza.

The recent single, “Cannonballers,” was Colony House’s first offering of 2022. The single premiered on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation Advanced Placement, and the video has amassed over 300k views in under a month. Propelled by a guitar riff recalling a roller coaster’s thrilling twists and turns, the song left listeners eager to hop back in line for another ride. The album title came from that amusement park muse – the Wabash Cannonball at Opryland USA – as well as the representation of duality that all people embody and experience.

The Cannonballers almost felt like another band name, an alter ego… on the one hand, a cannonballer could be a carefree kid, jumping through the air and finding their purpose in the size of splash they can create by jumping into a pool. They have all the time in the world. There is a beautiful naivety to that; it is simple and youthful,” expounds Caleb. “On the other hand, a cannonballer could be a road rallyist who enjoys speeding on the open road. A driver with complete disregard for authority. Someone who is in a hurry and needs that adrenaline kick to keep going.” He continues, “I think we are a pendulum swinging in the balance between these two characters. On any given day, we could be one or the other.”
