Alt-Pop Star Dela Kay Drops Sizzling New Single “Nasty”

Alt-Pop sensation Dela Kay has once again captivated audiences with the release of her latest single, “Nasty.” Co-written by Dela Kay herself, the track is a bold departure from her previous works, showcasing a daring and uninhibited side of the artist. Dela Kay reveals, “I got together with friends and co-writers, Ryan and Cas (Jordan A Casty), and I wanted to write a song that was different from all my other songs. I wanted to express another side of myself I don’t really share with my fans. Something that felt very ‘in your face’ and almost a fantasy type of song, showcasing what I feel is my alter ego, allowing myself to be blunt, sexy and just have a bit more fun.”

True to her vision, “Nasty” incorporates a diverse range of musical elements, including pop, trap moments, and rock, all while maintaining an alternative sound at its core. Dela Kay’s exploration of her wild side is evident throughout the track, as she fearlessly embraces themes of sexuality and empowerment. Reflecting on the creative process behind the single, Dela Kay shares, “We started messing with this guitar riff I had saved in my voice memos, and soon after playing it over and over the melody and phrase ‘nasty’ came through. From there, we ran with the idea and had a lot of fun with it.”

Despite initial reservations, Dela Kay ultimately decided to share “Nasty” with the world, driven by the overwhelmingly positive feedback she received. The song serves as a reminder to listeners to embrace their sexuality unapologetically and to revel in their own desires. “It’s about not being afraid to own your sexuality, no matter how you identify, and not being afraid to demand what you want and feel sexy,” says Dela Kay. “We all are secretly a little bit of a freak, so why not have fun with it. Being nasty is hot.” With its infectious energy and empowering message, “Nasty” is poised to become a standout addition to Dela Kay’s repertoire, solidifying her status as a trailblazing force in the alt-pop scene.

Dela Kay, who identifies as a songwriter first and foremost, believes that this phase of her career is her most authentic to date. With a commitment to releasing a series of singles throughout the rest of this year, she is determined to leave a lasting impression and make her mark on the music industry with her unique voice and perspective.

In 2014, her electro-pop style began to emerge through a collaboration with Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and producer, Femke Weidema; which eventually led to her first electro-pop/European-infused single release, “9 out of 10,” as Dela Kay in 2016. Named by Earmilk as an artist who was gifted “with a rich, distinctive vocal style” for her 2018 release of “Make You Mine,” Dela Kay went on to continue releasing singles and garnering hundreds of thousands of streams. In 2019 Dela Kay released “All My Love” through Sony Music, which ended up charting 49 on the top 150 global artist charts for Digital Radio Tracker as well as in the top ten for the Top Independent Charts. The release of “Think About You” shortly followed, which ended up becoming Dela’s highest-streamed song to date with almost 800k streams and counting. After a brief hiatus, Dela Kay marked her return by debuting a new, more alternative sound in 2021 with the release of “The Worst Part,” via Wonderland Magazine.

Encouraged by the positive feedback, Dela Kay delved deeper into this new sound with the release of “Old News,” a collaboration with Ryan Dulude and Rikki Jo Randall. Closing out 2022, Dela Kay touched hearts with “Daughter,” a poignant song dedicated to her father. This track marked a departure from her usual upbeat style, embracing a more folk-driven alternative sound, rich in vulnerability and cinematic storytelling. With the release of “Let You Down” in 2023, Dela Kay began her new journey with a wave of fresh content continuing throughout 2024. Looking ahead, Dela Kay plans to embark on a West Coast tour in the spring and summer, bringing her music and unique brand of storytelling to audiences far and wide.

ABOUT DEE HOLT:

From singing along to her dad’s guitar in VHS home videos and performing at family gatherings, to studying music and art in high school, dee holt’s life has been saturated with creativity from the very beginning. But despite all the external affirmation of her musical talent, she never thought about making a career out of it. As dee says, “Of course your mom’s going to tell you you can sing, right?”

It’s fitting then, that the performance that started her career wasn’t an audition or in front of a label, but an intimate gathering for her and her boyfriend’s parents to meet. When, on cue, dee’s mother suggested that she sing, dee turned to face the wall so that she could play the guitar without laughing. After she had finished, she turned around to see tears in her boyfriend’s eyes, the eyes of both his parents, and his little brother, too.

It was impossible to ignore any longer. dee doesn’t just have a good voice; she has a gift.

After forming a creative bond with local producer Benjamin Nadeau, dee’s first two singles landed her on Spotify’s LOREM playlist, among countless others, and the momentum didn’t stop. In 2022, after signing with Nettwerk Music Group, she released her debut EP, When I Close My Eyes, garnering millions of streams, numerous playlist covers, rave reviews, and even a Spotify billboard in downtown Toronto. TeenVogue called her “one to watch,” and SHEESH Media compared her vocals to the great Billie Eilish.

dee studied art/animation at university and continues to design all her own artwork and direct her own music videos. The project translates that much more of dee’s singular and magnetic sensibility. “With my cover art and visuals, I like to say that it’s fully me. It’s more authentic. It pushes me to learn new things and push myself.”

Caroline Romano Shares New Single “Used by You”

Rising alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano reveals her anthemic new single, “Used by You,” out on all streaming platforms today.

Over the course of her last few singles – “girl in a china shop,” “Tell Her I Said Hi” and “Used by You” – Caroline has unveiled a bolder sound that blends her pop sensibilities with dynamic alt-rock instrumentation. But, as her sound continues to naturally evolve, her authentic storytelling never waivers. It’s a song about the side effects of unrequited admiration. Alt-Pop Artist, Dela Kay, releases “IDWTAY”

Alt-Pop sensation Dela Kay is ringing in the new year with the drop of her latest single, “IDWTAY” (I don’t wanna think about you) – an anthem delving into the complexities of modern dating. The track explores the relatable concept of a “situationship,” where one decides to move forward with a new connection, yet the lingering thoughts of a past flame persist. It’s that powerful girl anthem about moving on but also still leaning into your toxic tendencies, wanting the old person to feel a little jealous while you do it. With a mix of fun, sexiness, and upbeat aggression, “IDWTAY” is poised to become the go-to song for those navigating the delicate balance between moving on and embracing lingering feelings.

Dela Kay, who hails from the vibrant music scene of Nashville, TN, describes “IDWTAY” as one of her personal favorites among the new songs she plans to release in 2024. Drawing inspiration from artists such as The Maine, Maggie Lindemann, Paramore, and Avril Lavigne, Dela Kay continues to embrace her Alternative roots while crafting music that is both authentic and edgy. The track follows the success of her previous single, “Let You Down,” which has amassed over 125K streams and secured a spot on Shazam’s Best New Music Apple Playlist. “Let You Down” explored the intricate dynamics of modern relationships, showcasing Dela Kay’s ability to craft songs that resonate with listeners on a deep, emotional level.

Dela Kay, who identifies as a songwriter first and foremost, believes that this phase of her career is her most authentic to date. With a commitment to releasing a series of singles throughout 2024, she is determined to leave a lasting impression and make her mark on the music industry with her unique voice and perspective. “I hope to make a lasting impression, making my artistic mark with authenticity and edginess. I think women have a voice and I intend to use mine and don’t plan on stopping until I have everyone’s attention,” passionately expresses Dela Kay.

MORE INFO:

Hailing from Nashville, TN, music was always a big part of the household for Dela Kay. Seeing the emotional connection a personal song could make fueled her desire to write and to be a storyteller. She studied musical theater at The Chicago College of Performing Arts at the Theatre Conservatory of Roosevelt University, where she grew creatively in many ways, but ultimately felt a strong call back to her roots of songwriting. “I will always love life in the theater. But there is something so much more satisfying to me when I create something uniquely mine, from my heart, using my own words and music. I draw from the scars of broken relationships just as easily as the joy and celebration of being young and free.”

Powerful New Single from MOTHICA featuring Sophie Powers

Los Angeles-based multimedia artist MOTHICA has released her powerful new single “SIRENS” featuring Canadian alt-pop artist Sophie Powers. Co-written with Powers and Lynn Gunn of pop-rock band PVRIS, the track is the first offering from MOTHICA since the release of her original song “Glow in the Dark,” for the award-winning guitar-learning platform, ROCKSMITH+.

“I wrote ‘Sirens’ about having feelings for someone who is a walking red flag. The type of toxic person you should avoid, but the tantalizing allure of ignoring your intuition about someone,” shares MOTHICA. “I’ve been a huge PVRIS fan for years because Lynn Gunn is a true visionary in every aspect of her project. I had the pleasure of meeting her during a writing camp and got to make ‘Sirens’ with her and co-wrote it with one of my favorite people, Maize. Lynn produced the song, and I was in awe of working with an artist I’ve admired for so long. I asked Sophie Powers to jump on the song, and she sent this incredible second verse that’s been stuck in my head! It was an incredible experience to work with three other women to create ‘Sirens’ and wanted to release it before my upcoming third album.”

Fresh back from a successful weekend at Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK, MOTHICA is excited to return to Europe this fall supporting Halestorm and Black Veil Brides. For tickets and more information, visit https://www.mothica.com/tour.
