From Upcoming New Album ‘PLAYDEAD’ Out September 27 (via UNFD)

Prepare for a sonic adventure as Japanese genre-blending powerhouse SiM has dropped their new single and music video, KiSS OF DEATH, which premiered on Crunchyroll earlier today. Seamlessly blending hard rock, reggae, and pop-punk, KiSS OF DEATH is taken from the band’s upcoming new album PLAYDEAD (out on September 27 (via UNFD). Speaking on the inspiration for the track, SiM vocalist Mah commented:

Those of you who’ve read the Japanese translation may be sharp enough to have noticed but the hook. “Play back, play back” is a parody of Momoe Yamaguchi’s “Playback Part 2”, a masterpiece from Japanese pop music.

Speaking of the title “KiSS OF DEATH”, the famous story is of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus Christ. He becomes the “symbol of betrayal” in the episode where he kisses him and identifies him as Jesus Christ, sending a sign to the enemy soldiers.

But my version of the “KiSS OF DEATH” is… Rougela’s “Devil’s Kiss” (Akuma’s Kiss) from Pokemon (LOL). (In the overseas version, Rougela’s known as Jynx / Lovely Kiss is its power. Feels strange…)The lyrics describe a scenario where you are walking and suddenly a female vampire appears and gives you a “Devil’s Kiss”, causing you to fall asleep while she drinks your blood.

SiM has previously released RED (theme song for the latest season of Netflix anime series ‘Kengan Ashura’), DO THE DANCE, HiDE and SEEK and most recently, Sad Song which altogether have clocked up over 1.3 million streams and counting on Spotify alone. SiM won the Best Anime Song and Best Opening Sequence awards in two categories at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2023 held in March 2023. The song “The Rumbling,” which served as the opening theme for the TV anime “Attack on Titan” The Final Season Part 2, garnered worldwide acclaim.

The new album “PLAYDEAD” includes a collection of 13 powerful songs that showcase SiM’s signature style and innovative approach, along with the highly anticipated tie-in tracks from the popular anime series such as “Attack on Titan” and “Kengan Ashura,” both of which have been generating tremendous excitement both domestically and internationally.
