Nekura, formed by members of Ukrainian bands Septa and The Nietzsche, introduces their debut EP, deeply influenced by Japanese haiku. The EP, featuring songs in Ukrainian, delves into the themes of painful breakups and emotional turmoil. The music, characterized by its diverse range from emo to blackened hardcore and power violence, reflects the heartache of lost love. The project was initially recorded before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but underwent significant changes during the conflict, including a shift from English to Ukrainian lyrics. The final product, mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley, renowned for his work with bands like Deafheaven, captures the profound experiences and rawness of the period. “Nekura EP” is a unique addition to the screamo genre, appealing to fans of Touche Amore, Deafheaven, and Loma Prieta.
