Hard Rock powerhouse Five Finger Death Punch 20th Anniversary World Tour is moving fast. The massive 48-city tour kicked off on July 20th at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, NJ, and will wrap up in Bristow, VA at Jiffy Lube Live on Friday, October 23rd. Outlaw country musician Cody Jinks joins the tour as special guest and Eva Under Fire gets the show started. A combination of the little bit of everything, you get a modern metal, a little bit of country and some hard hitting rock music. Two weeks after starting the things off in Camden, the state of New Jersey got their second show, this time in Holmdel. Not as lucky as the fans in Texas and California who get three shows in their states.

Due to the reasons beyond my control I ran in the venue clutching my camera as Eva Under Fire played the last chords of their set. Hey, there is always the next time. Right?
Getting back to the statement that this show has everything, this is it. After fiery modern rock up-comers Eva Under Fire, we turned the page to the country music. And I must say a pretty straight forward country, as to something feeling classic genre. We all get our phases in life and I got my country phase some 12-13 years ago. Listening to NY country radio station I got a grip on changes the genre took towards some more rock music influence or pop music influence. So pardon my uneducated guess, but from what I heard Cody sounds to be more classic in his approach. Even Cody himself called this a strange show, considering his style, and knowing what is coming up next. However he was welcome by all in the audience and well received, and certainly had his place in this tour, but about that little later.
Nonetheless Cody Jinks played an hour long set with his biggest hits like Must Be the Whiskey, Hippies and Cowboys and Loud & Heavy left for the end of it. His set included a country take on AC/DC hit It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll), which was awesome.
So, why country was repped here. Two things must be mentioned. Cody is no stranger to a heavy music. Early on he was part of a heavy metal band influenced by Metallica and Pantera. After that he started playing country, the music he grew up in Texas. Also … Five Finger Death Punch vocalist Ivan Moody addressing the crowd during their set, explained about their affinity towards listening the country music and how the band enjoys every show night listening to Cody’s set. It was a bit strange, but it all made sense and we all liked it.

Five Finger Death Punch prepped their stage fitting their 20th anniversary celebration. Hi tech, top of the line, multi screen, bunch of pyro. It was great, but probably not that much needed as the bands strength is the live show connection to the fans. Front row [spectators went home the happiest with multiple memorabilia thrown into the crowd by Ivan Moody, including but not limited to his hat, cane and many kerchiefs. Ivan kept pacing around the front of the stage talking to everyone, high fiving, winking and giving out stuff.
Let’s talk music. Damn, it was loud as hell. And heavy. Starting of the things with Welcome to the Circus they followed with two more heavy hitters taken from their latest release – Eye of the Storm and Legacy that Ivan called the best single from the new record. For me that is when the work started and we entered the pit, and what do you know, the next two came from my favorite album that you need to find all the way back in 2015 called Got Your Six. First one of two named Wash It All Away got us doused by Ivan with water as he squirted the bottle on to us before tossing it to the fans. Sure, thanks Ivan! That was followed by Jekyll and Hyde. What a rush of energy!!!
After Lift Me Up band took some pause to talk about this great country’s 250th birthday, and how we are all united at these shows. Band followed up with their cover of Bad Company.
Massive hits and crowd pleasers followed with full-throttle night of rock and metal. A weather might have dampened the mood as some of the lawn seat area looked like a mud hut and had people scattered to rail or higher up, the monster high humidity drenched even us by the stage, and I cant even fathom what artists had to go through. In spite of all that Five Finger Death Punch put up a show to remember and rocked the venue to the euphoria.

ABOUT CODY JINKS (from management)
Cody Jinks has always built his career on his own terms. Growing up near Fort Worth, Texas, Jinks spent his formative musical years as the frontman of a thrash metal band called Unchecked Aggression. Throughout the early 2000s, he toured relentlessly but, ultimately, Jinks found himself drawn back to his Texas roots and the country music he’d grown up hearing. Jinks spent years playing small venues and building a grassroots following where he learned to disrupt the status quo with an industrious, do-it-yourself approach. His breakthrough came with the 2015 album Adobe Sessions (2015), a raw, honest collection of songs that resonated deeply with fans hungry for genuine country music.
