With so much noise and carnage in the world of music these days, it’s a breath of fresh air to hear and see SoCal’s own Pop Punk/Emo/Alternative Rock Band Sik Sik Sicks. I had the honor and pleasure of covering this dynamic and energized band for SIK SIK SICKS and for SLR MAGAZINE a few weeks ago when Sik Sik Sicks invited me to see their performance at The Canyon in Agoura Hills, CA in April 26. 2024.

Sik Sik Sicks was formed back in 2018 by Madd Lucas. I first heard of their music around two years ago when the band was the opener for Gritty in Pink’s Jam night at The Echo. What I saw and heard back then truly impressed me.

From then on, I’ve been wanting to see them play again and I finally got the chance to do so because I had the “day off” from work, I had nothing scheduled for a shoot that evening, And the stars were all lined up straight in heaven . The timing couldn’t be any more perfect…well almost perfect since LA is known for its horrendous Friday night rush hour Traffic which begins from 12 noon all the way up to 9pm. But that’s another story…

Anyway, Sik Sik Sicks was truly SIC AF (as they say in today’s language by our younger generation). They bring their own unique blend of fresh and energized sounds of punk rock music. One can hear the influences of bands from the True Punk Rock Greats such as The Clash and The Ramones and Blondie and even Toy Dolls might I add. Along with the such great punk rock band influences, one might say that their sounds also come with hints of Grunge Bands influence such as Hole and Paramore and all the EMO bands from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. But don’t get me wrong, Sik Sik Sicks definitely hold their own style and flair with aggressive and yet melodic sounds making this band extremely unique in today’s music.

Sik Sik Sicks is fronted by Madd Lucas on Lead vocals and guitar. Max Lucas shreds on Lead guitar. Jona Bowen Smith bangs the beats hard and fast on drums. And Dean Carpenter slaps that Bass.

As I always say, my photos speak for themselves since I’m not a writer. A photograph is and will always be worth more than a thousand words. I say what I see. Honest and to the point. No fancy words. This is a great band to watch and hear. Their music is great. Period.

Follow Sik Sik Sicks on all their social media for more infectious sounds and showmanship that give a whole new meaning to the world of pop punk/emo/alternative rock music.
