AT THE RENOWNED VENUE, THE ECHOPLEX ON SUNDAY JULY 14, 2024
Some dreams come true. Some dreams don’t. And some dreams come true but takes awhile to come into fruition. For SURVIVE SAID THE PROPHET, the dream became a reality, but it did take a while but it still became true.

“I’ve been waiting G*d D*mn 20 years to be here. I’ve spent my whole entire life trying to play a show in LA. Tonight you’re making history with us. You Ready?!” – Yosh/Yoshi (Yoshi Morita) Lead vocalist of Survive Said The Prophet.
To answer Yoshi’s question, YES! LA fans were definitely ready for SURVIVE SAID THE PROPHET. In fact, some fans lined up as early as 10am to show their support for the band. One fan, Wilson, flew down to LA as far as the Bay Area who by the way also saw them up in San Jose during Fanime. I’m sure there were others who flew even further, but I just didn’t meet them. Wilson and Denji (an Angelino) were one of the first ones in line on this day along with two other huge fans of SSTP (short for SURVIVE SAID THE PROPHET), Rita and Natalie. In fact, Rita and Natalie are such huge fans that they are already doing their research and are planning to see SSTP in Japan in January at The Liquid Room. I even suggested to Rita and Natalie to stuff me inside one of their suitcases since I’m short and I’ll pay for the the extra baggage weight. Ha!
SURVIVE SAID THE PROPHET is a Japanese rock band from Tokyo that was formed back in 2011. This is their first U.S. Tour ever and they were welcomed by American fans with so much love and support. Their U.S. Tour began on July 3, 2024 in New York and ended in the West Coast with the 2nd to the last show at The Echoplex in LA on July 14 and the last show in San Diego on July 15.
SSTP consists of the following great artists:
YOSH/YOSHI (Yoshiya Morita) – Lead vocals
TATSUYA (Tatsuya Kato) – Guitar
IVAN (Ivan Kwong) – Guitar
SHOW (Sho Okada) – Drums
SSTP’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary and wild. Their non-stop energy was felt by every person in the venue and most likely the entire city of Echo Park because their passion for their music and stage performance are filled with so much emotion from joy to ecstatic to pure bliss.
SSTP started off the night with one of their older songs called “Fool’s Gold” which pumped up the crowd especially the OG fans of SSTP. Throughout the evening the audience danced and pranced and rocked and moshed around the venue. At one point one fan I saw crowd surfed and got onto the stage. Despite him getting on stage, he was welcomed by Yoshi and the band. He was on the stage and rocked out for several seconds and quickly dove back to the audience and surfed his way down so as to not disrupt the performance. Yoshi sang his heart out with so much enthusiasm and passion and was often seen interacting with the audience giving them high-fives and fist bumps, including me with my infamous photo I often do called “fist bump selfie with an artist”. Same can be said by all the other members who often got close and personal with the audience. Truly a wonderful experience by the fans who got to interact closely with the members.
As the night slowly faded away near closing time, SSTP performed their last song (before the encore of course) with their most popular song “MUKANJYO”. This song is everyone’s favorite because it is the opening song for the Japanese Anime Television Series called Vinland Saga. This is the song that I was introduced to a year ago and how I came to know of the band and became a fan as well.
Cliché as it may be, everyone loves and expects an encore. Having seen and photographed and covered a lot of JROCK bands in the past, for some reason, most of them will not do an Encore. When they say, this is the last song, they mean it. SSTP of course defied the meaning of “this is the last song.” Everyone waited for a few minutes, one person (not going to name any names) saw the microphone and yelled and sang the line from the song Mukanjyo “What went wrong?” And the crowd enthusiastically responded back and sang the same line “What went wrong?” If you know, you know. What a great moment for everyone. And surely, the band came back and performed their last song of the night “HI/LO” which everyone can relate to because it’s about us as human beings experiencing the highs and the lows of life particularly if you are an artist trying to accomplish the dreams you have and have to endure a long time on the road that keeps spinning around to the same path you are on, round and round and round until one day you actually accomplish the dreams you have (or not). And for SSTP, the dream of playing in Los Angeles became true.
What an EPIC night and a great time was had by everyone.
If you are a fan of Survive Said The Prophet, you are already a fan for life. If you haven’t listened to their music, you will become a fan since their music and their writings are relatable to one’s life.
