AT THE BELASCO IN DTLA ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2024
Formed in 2015, STARCRAWLER is an unstoppable force of a band who is still crawling, clawing, causing and commanding controlled chaos on stage with their theatrics and antics, and climbing ever so ferociously to reach that star kingdom that most bands strive for. But, STARCRAWLER is doing this unapologetically on their pace and their own terms.

I have had the pleasure of seeing STARCRAWLER several times in the past and from what I have seen from them (5 times from LA to Portland and from tiny venues to mid-sized venues) and from what I’ve gathered, and heard, in my humblest of all opinions, they have a vibe and attitude of “We don’t give a crap about you and you and you and and you. And we are here play some hard and heavy and loud rock & roll music with a whole lot of punk mixed in to show the world that we are badasses. So come along for the ride or don’t. We don’t give a F*çK!” That’s my opinion of course from what I have seen and heard like I said. And I love this about them.
The band’s music and performance are hard and heavy but not heavy metal heavy. The music is ROCK & RAW and is contagiously infused with lots of energy and fun mixed in with punk vibe and attitude. The controlled chaos and glamour one sees and hears from this band are visually exciting and sometimes even explicit. This band from Los Angeles, Ca delivers pure Rock & Roll with lots of bliss that you can find during punk shows where the fans mosh each other out to madness (depending on the venues where I’ve seen them).
The band sometimes picks a fan from the audience and sometimes get the opportunity to be get up on stage with them to sing a song along with them. I once saw a fan (NYE 2022/2023) where she got up on stage but literally within seconds had a wardrobe malfunction. Despite that malfunction on that NYE night, she hung around on stage. Of course I caught all that moment with my camera and we followed each other right after that incident. She even posted the shots in her social media as did I (don’t worry, it’s PG-13 and I’m not that type of photographer and do not ever call me a paparazzi).
On this night at The Belasco, however, a super fan, who we shall call “V”, was invited to play Henri Cash’s guitar on stage and finish the rest of the song (see the photo of V in the photo gallery). V played it flawlessly and effortlessly. V mentioned to me that she has seen STARCRAWLER 30 times. Therefore she deserves the title of a SUPER FAN.
Also in the past I’ve seen The Kool Aid guy get on stage with them (V told me that this is her boyfriend who was dressed up as The Kool Aid Guy). And on my first concert of STARCRAWLER, I saw a member of the band fly and dive straight into the drummer at the end of their set. This happened in 2021 for their Halloween weekend concert show where all the band members were dressed up as The Evil Nuns I was instantly hooked. I hope the drums were not damaged and forget the drummer…just kidding of course about forgetting the drummer. Haha. Shenanigans at its finest and its core.
The theatrics and their shenanigans and their controlled chaos are a part of their show But they are true talented artists who can play music .
One more thing I’d like to add, Arrow, the lead vocalist is very opinionated and will let you know exactly what is on her mind. This is so true that she called out the audience up in Portland OR in 2023 because they were not rocking out hard enough since most of the fans that night only came to see the headlining band and were a very tamed bunch of music fans. Love her or hate her, she is who she is. After all it’s a ROCK & ROLL / PUNK SHOW. So if you’re not rocking out with them and has a tame and lame energy, get ready to be called out. And if you are a sensitive fan, GTFO from the floor and leave the venue. Kudos to Arrow and STARCRAWLER for truly being badasses.
Unless you’re a sensitive person and lame and old and can’t rock out, don’t go see Starcrawler. But if you love Rock & Roll with a whole lot of Punk Attitude and can ROCK OUT and listen to some great music and watch an amazing performance of a band, then I highly recommend STARCRAWLER. You won’t be disappointed.
