Macy Gray’s voice burst onto the scene in the late-90’s with some very popular GAP commercials garnering a lot of “who’s that voice?” comments from a lot of us. That voice came at the right place at the right time and Macy hit it big. Hit singles followed and Macy built a really nice career over the last couple of decades as a headlining artist. As part of her latest US Tour Ms Gray gave a wonderful performance at the Ventura Music Hall on Oct 16th here in SoCal.
The hour-and-a-half show featured the hits with a lot of audience participation, included some deeper cuts and even surprised the crowd with covers such as the Pretenders “Brass In Pocket”, 60’s classic “Sunny” and an over-the-top great rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep”. This was a really nice show, where the artist and audience were in a great groove for the evening.
Opening the show was Marina V, a SoCal favorite who is well known in the indie music community who has graced the stage with Macy as well as artists such as Howard Jones and Beth Hart. Macy and her band have a couple of more weeks of shows in California and Texas before wrapping up this tour at the end of October.
