On November 16, 2024, I had an opportunity to attend a show at Universal Bar and Grill in North Hollywood, California. The lineup of bands was a superbly amazing one, and they were all female fronted bands. There was this young band called Damage Control that really was beyond amazing. Lite initially formed the band in 2021 but had some ups and downs, she finally found the right line up at MI this summer.
This band consists of three young teens that have been playing together for only four months but their stage presence was definitely beyond their years. The lead singer and lead guitarist is just 16yrs old, her stage name is Lite. Damage Control consists of three members: Lite-lead singer/guitarist, Mateo-drummer, and Jay- bassist.
In talking to their manager, they have really been able to perform in some big venues, they have opened for some bigger artists such as Agent Orange in August 2024 at The Whisky a go go and they just recently opened for Cherie Currie at The Whisky a go go on November 1st, 2024. Lite’s manager told me that Cherie Currie was completely impressed with Lite’s cover of Cherry Bomb, and loved the alternative emo twist she does. Damage Control performed a set of covers, including Cherry Bomb from The Runaways, and American Idiot by Green Day, as well as a few original written songs that include their newest single Tell me, and Hard to be which is their most played song on Spotify. Lite definitely has an alternative sound with an emo twist and really shreds on the guitar. Jay the bassist puts his own talent into the bass and brings the sound to blend well with the guitar, and Mateo ties it all together on the drums. I became an instant fan, and can’t wait to see them again, and how they grow in this music journey. Their sound reminds me of a blend of so many alternative bands from the early 90’s with an amazing emo twist.
