On November 16th, 2024, I was able to go check out some amazing female fronted rock bands at Universal Bar and Grill. The opening musician AYVA is a 16yrs old, and such a talented musician. She is the lead singer and guitar player. She was accompanied by Sydney who rocked the drum kit, at just 15yrs old, she really kept the beat. Lukas, who played bass, really kept the performance going strong. They did a variety of cover songs and originals. AYVA is a powerhouse guitarist and a thoroughly strong singer. I really loved her grunge-alternative sound, which reminded me of the band Hole. From Southern California, this 16-year-old artist is proving that the spirit of rock isn’t bound by age or era. And she’s not your typical teenager.  Listen to her latest single The Basement available now on all streaming platforms, as well as her other singles which include The Monster, Insane, and a few more.

Who are your biggest musical influences? My biggest musical influences are Deftones, Death From Above 1979, Bjork, St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, System of a Down, Royal Blood and Thom Yorke.

How long have you been playing together as a band? The band has been together for almost a year now.

What is your songwriting process like? Most of my songs are influenced by how I’m feeling. The singles I’ve released so far were written during Covid. The isolation and uncertainty of that time caused a lot of anxiety that I dealt with by writing music. The instrumentals also reflect how I was feeling at the time through different melodies and riffs.

What inspires you to make music? My music is inspired by the emotions I’ve gone through. Each single perfectly captures a moment in my life.
