The Girlactic Music Fest held its inaugural event this week in LA. In the planning stage for the last year this all female music event is the brainchild of Kitten Kay Sera, leader of Pinktastic Plastixx. There has been a wave of increasing popularity of female music acts in recent years as evidenced by the proliferation of femme-centric music collectives and events such as Gritty In Pink, Women Rock LA and now this newest arrival. The iconic Whisky-A-Go-Go served as the venue for this first-ever event and the place was pretty packed. Kitten (AKA the pinkest women in the world as she is known by) served as the emcee for the evening which had a retro space theme with space-clad hostesses and a Mister Roboto character circulating among the crowd. The hard rocking evening of music was in high energy mode and run like clockwork with short breaks between acts. The roster included locals Razor Burn kicking of the show, then Anti Groupies, Madam Bombs, Doll Riot, Go Scarlet, Razor Burn and Rebel Queens who ventured all the way from Minnesota with a couple in the audience who made the 29 hour trip by car from Illinois to see their favorite band! Kitten Kay Sera and her Pinktastic Plastixx group closed out 5 – ½ hours of music. All-in-all this inaugural event was quite the success — well done!
