Mom+Pop Music artist, metal, alt-rock powerhouse singer and songwriter, Violent Vira, today releases her highly anticipated LP, ‘Lover Of A Ghost and a video called, “Lil Lover”
The Mexican-American songstress, born Amy Gonzalez, alongside bandmates Anthony Brown and Matt Bolling, has quietly emerged as a hard rock phenomenon, boasting hundreds of millions of streams and a string of sold-out shows. Born to first-generation Mexican parents and raised in a Boise, ID trailer park, Vira’s rise from busking with a ukulele to becoming one of rock’s most streamed emerging artists underscores her resilience and authenticity.
Her previous singles, “Common Decency”, “Burn Me With A Bible”, “Saccharine.”, “I Don’t Care” (64MM+ streams on Spotify and 100K+ streams/day) and “God Complex” have collectively surpassed 100 million global streams over the last year, and the band is currently on a national tour.
To celebrate the release of Lover of a Ghost, Violent Vira will host a special record store release party at Rough Trade Below NYC today at 5 pm, where she will meet fans, sign vinyl, and perform an intimate set.
Now, she connects closer than ever with her full-length debut LP, Lover of a Ghost, which explores relationships in all their forms: friendship, family, love, interwoven with Vira’s life experiences, including her Mexican heritage, fronting an all-male band, and the reality of everyday existence for this twenty-something young woman.
Song titles include “Chasing Ghosts”, “S.E.X. Narcissist”, “EAT”, and previously released singles, “Saccharine” and “Burn Me With A Bible”.
Vira talks about the LP: “Hopefully, this is just a safe place for all of the weird kids, because that’s who I am deep at my core,” she states. “I’m not a cool rockstar; I’m still somebody who gets overly excited and is grateful for everyone who listens to me.”
In the video, Vira is seen running from something or someone and then destroying the things around her. Who is it? Is it her own trauma?
“We wanted to intertwine the story of Lover of a Ghost into Lil Crush since it was so fitting to the characters of Girl and Lover. The feelings of obsession go so well with the color red, which is the main signature in the video, particularly in the photo development room. I accidentally put the blood into my nose too far up, and it stung, and I got teary-eyed.” Vira says, “I wanted to showcase the insanity that happens internally in a visual form. Destroying the room was fun as well, getting to embody the character of Girl and her spiral was cathartic!”
Vira’s voice has been compared to Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Kittie’s Morgan Lander.
The current tour began in early November and is winding its way across the US, featuring sold-out shows and key stops including New York City/Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Denver, Salt Lake City, and Seattle, to name a few.
Violent Vira performed to packed audiences on the festival circuit this past summer, including notable performances at RiotFest, After Shock, and Louder Than Life. She has previously toured with Aberdeen is Dead and will continue to bring inspiring live performances to every stage she graces.
Following the U.S. tour, Violent Vira will embark on her first-ever European and U.K. run, joining Kim Dracula as direct support across major cities including Stockholm, Berlin, Paris, London, Manchester, and Glasgow. The tour marks Violent Vira’s international live debut and continues her rapid rise as one of rock’s most electrifying new voices.
