The Struts descended upon LA’s Grammy Museum for one very entertaining night of interview, audience Q&A and an acoustic mini-concert. Conducting the interview was journalist Lyndsey Parker who has a long history with the group from its early days and came well prepared with insightful questions for the band. The interview recounted the early beginnings and inspiration from groups such as The Darkness as well as front man Luke Spiller’s lead singer inspirations. Details were shared about their endless years of touring, getting recognition not only in their native England but also in France and their eventual opportunity to be the opener in Paris for the Rolling Stones 2014 Stade De France concert in France, a concert that showed their ability to play well with stadium sized crowds. Here in the US similar notoriety was achieved opening for Motley Crue on their 2015/16 farewell tour and are a favorite of fellow rockers The Foo Fighters. Now of course they’re headliners on their own tours and are a favorite on the summer festival circuit.

After going through the early years and rise of the band a nice focus of the evening was the collaboration with Brian May of Queen. Brian represents a serious guitar hero for the group and did a of their classic song “Could’ve Been Me”. They described the process of testing the waters with mutual friends Def Leppard to get acquainted with Brian in the first place, then casually bringing up the idea of a collaboration and finally having it realized at a session at Brian May’s home in England.

This author saw and covered The Struts earlier this year on the main stage at SoCal’s BeachLife Festival where the group totally rocked an audience of 30,000 people. After a couple of more shows for 2025 the group next year heads into the studio to work on their next album, hinting that it would be a concept album and representing something totally different in the world of rock. The Struts are one of the most energetic live acts in music and definitely worth checking out if you would like to enjoy a feel good evening of music.
