Classic rock legends Foreigner have produced an enormous amount of hits during their heyday. This December the band embarked on American tour billed Foreigner 4 Deluxe Tour to celebrate their one of the most influential and successful albums of all time “4”. The album released on July 2, 1981, by Atlantic Records. It included the fan favorites as “Urgent”, “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “Juke Box Hero”. Band is also supporting expanded reissue of its 1981 album available from September 12th. The shows kicked off on December 3rd and 4th in Port Chester, New York, and wrapped up on the 13th in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. we caught up with the band the day before the last show in Montclair, NJ which was second of back-to-back nights at the venue. And to no surprise both were sold out shows.

The band Foreigner has been active since the year 1976. The one of the best years on the planet ! (I was born then). However my first encounter was listening to the I Want to Know What Love Is released back in 1984. Though I heard it for the first time three years after the release. Honestly, I never got into the band until I came to US and got hooked on NYC’s classic rock station Q104.3 that were playing a ton of their songs. That is the time when I heard all their hits from this album and beyond, and it certainly peaked my interest in the bands melodic rock songs.

But enough about me. On this run the Foreigner was supported by Constantine Maroulis – participant at American Idol and receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a leading role for his iconic performance in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. He was supported, I believe, by his girlfriend. He did introduce the lady on the guitar but I missed, and I apologize for that. His performance was interesting and well received by the audience.

It was a bit longer wait for the Foreigner as I anticipated as the stage was already set up, but it was worth the wait. As they kicked off the night with two from 4 – Night Life and Woman in Black followed by a deep cut from 1977 Long, Long Way From Home. After that the bands new singer Luis Maldonado asked the crowd for their input on the next song. I believe it was pre-determined that next one will be Cold As Ice, as all band members already lined up to their respective instruments for it, but it was an easy call as audience shouted like ten different song titles at the same time. Anyhow, that was the first heavy hitter of the night.

Bands original and long time vocalist, legendary songwriter – Lou Gramm performed select songs alongside Foreigner’s new full-time singer Luis Maldonado, who took over for Kelly Hansen. He carried it well singing – Luanne , Girl on the Moon, Urgent, I Want to Know What Love Is and Hot Blooded.

Lou is the last original member “still touring” with the band. There is one thing we can’t stop in the world and it is the time. We can’t expect to live and last forever. The rest of the band touring now have been part of it form 2004 or 2008 or have joined recently. Check the Foreigner future dates and enjoy an amazing show from amazing band !!!

All together, this show was an amazing trip down the memory lane when the music was more melodic, easier and more playful. Fantastic experience for all classic rock fans!
