Finding a new band playing a great music is always exciting. I randomly showed up at Universal Bar and Grill to support my friend’s band and happened to catch Lost Over Love. They’re a newer Southern California band, with an alternative/pop sound.
There set list included a few cover songs as well as a couple original songs. Definitely a band to keep your eye on. Below is Q&A giving you the insight into the new band.
How did the band come together? Was it a specific moment or gradual?
The band was a vision that Devyn Moreno (Frontman) and Max Handelman
(Lead Guitar) have had since high school. Back in high school, they
met and found that they had very similar musical tastes and similar
backgrounds, and always envisioned themselves playing in a band
together. They took time apart, but really got back to being closer in
early 2025, and formed the band officially in late 2025.
Who are the main songwriters, and what influences your songwriting process?
Devyn Moreno and Max Handelman are the main songwriters for the band.
Max and Devyn will usually come up with a lot of instrumental ideas,
typically influenced by their musical influences such as Panic! At The
Disco and State Champs. Devyn and Max will then collaborate on the
songwriting process with lyric writing and melody writing. What really
influences our songwriting process is the desire to tell our stories
and talk about what we know to ultimately show people with similar
life experiences that they have an outlet to go to.
What are some of your musical influences, and how do they shape your style?
Some of our musical influences are Panic! At The Disco, State Champs,
All Time Low, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Queen, Linkin Park, Led
Zeppelin, Yellowcard, and many more! These influences help shape our
style as we pick from each of these individual groups and their
sounds, and draw inspiration in all of our music from these bands. Our
first song we ever wrote, for example, was heavily influenced by
Panic! At The Disco and State Champs. These bands were all bands we
grew up listening to on repeat, and they heavily influence us to not
feel ashamed to tell our stories and turn them into the art of music.
Are there any non-musical inspirations (such as art, books, or
experiences) that influence your music?
Some non-musical inspirations we have that influence our music is our
past experiences, our closest friends and family, traveling and
exploring the world, and influences in art, literature, and
philosophy.
What’s your favorite part about performing live, and how do you engage with your audience?
Our favorite part about performing live is getting to be on the stage
under the lights with ourselves playing music to a crowd of people
feeding off the energy of the room we’re in. We engage with our
audience by recognizing them as people and not just the “audience”. We
feel like our audience are our friends and family, even if they are
complete strangers, and we want them to be able to party, dance, sing,
and feel safe with us!
What do you want people to feel when they see your live performances?
We want people to feel like they can be their true selves and feel
safe screaming out their lungs to the music we create. We want people
to feel safety, love, and unity when they see our live performances,
and we want everyone to feel like our performances are one big party
full of love and good vibes.
What’s on your tour wishlist, or is there a venue or city you dream of
playing in?
We dream of playing in many places, however, the city we dream of
playing in most would be anywhere in Japan. We also dream of playing
in the places we grew up watching the bands that inspired us, such as
the Kia Forum, The Rose Bowl, The Hollywood Bowl, and The Greek
Theatre. Lastly, one venue we absolutely dream of playing in one day
would be Madison Square Garden.
Are there any artists or bands you’d love to collaborate with in the future?
We would absolutely love to collaborate with Brendon Urie (Panic! At
The Disco), Haley Williams (Paramore), Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy,
Charlie Puth, Derek Discanio (State Champs), Sombr, and so many more
to name! We would love to collaborate with our musical influences, as
well as, friends who do music and want to create something amazing.
If you could perform on any major festival stage, which one would it be?
If we could perform on any major festival stage, it would have to be
Warped Tour, When We Were Young, and/or Coachella!
