It was another hard and heavy line up of adrenaline pumping Hard Rock bands who came and played at The World Famous Whisky A Go Go on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Each one showcased their own unique style of rock, but all played heavy and loud. There were six bands on the bill on this night who came from all different parts of the country. But on this night, I was on assignment to cover one specific band whom I have never heard before called OUTLIER, who is on tour with the headliner SILENT THEORY along with another support act, DISCREPANCIES. With only a couple of days notice after receiving the assignment, I immediately watched some of their music videos and listened to their songs. And boy, was I glad that I took on this assignment. OUTLIER’s music exceeded all my expectations after listening and watching their music videos. OUTLIER’s music reminded me of bands like MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, BAD OMENS, and BRING ME THE HORIZON, having that same type of grit, dark, and ferocious metal core sounds and presence when playing, but with their own unique style of post-modern, hard-core rock sounds.

On this night, OUTLIER’s frontman, Joey Arena, with his powerful and snarling vocals, evoked unrestrained emotions filled with dark intensity and beautiful melodic sounds of controlled chaos when he sang. Joey also showed us his relentless non-stop raw and aggressive energy on stage, often head banging and getting the crowd involved, going from one part of the stage to the other, without compromising his structurally sound vocals. But with all this angst filled with aggressive energy, Joey also never stopped smiling all throughout the night. At one point during the evening, he mentioned that in all the years of playing LIVE shows since the inception of OUTLIER back in 2017, he has never played at The Whisky A Go Go despite the fact that he has played at other venues on The Sunset Strip, but never played at The World Famous Whisky A Go Go, until this night. Now wonder Joey couldn’t contain his infectious and gigantic smile all night long. Having photographed hundreds of bands at The Whisky A Go Go, there is one common denominator when a musician or a band plays their first time at this venue, and that is they all get the biggest smiles in The World. And of course that is expected. After all, this is a historic music venue in which Motley Crue, Van Halen, and Guns N Roses once called it home. To be on the same stage where these legends of the past once stood and played all the time is definitely a dream come true for him and his band.

Of course the band wouldn’t be complete without the great riveting talents of the other members: Kane Buckley ripping shreds on Guitar; Cosmo and his thunderous bass licks and slaps; And Tristan Copelan pounding explosively on drums. Together with Joey Arena on vocals, they are OUTLIER.

The setlist on this night include the following songs:

  • Creature Of The Night
  • Warriors
  • Buried Me Alive
  • Nightmare *Newly Released Single
  • Superstar
  • Living Dead

Overall, their authentic performance, their powerful music, and their raw energy were impeccable. It was non-stop action from beginning to the end. The atmosphere during their set was full of deep connection by the band and their fans, old and new, as well as good vibes and fun that were had by all. Nothing short of majestic by OUTLIER. And I’m honored to have been part of this momentous event and got to cover and  capture moments of their very first performance at The World Famous Whisky A Go Go. And I even got to meet Joey Arena upstairs after the set. But one notable moment was when OUTLIER invited the lead vocalist of Silent Theory and the lead vocalist of the band before them called Discrepancies on stage and played a song with OUTLIER. A magnanimous act by Joey and the band. Truly a memorable evening was had by everyone.
