Los Angeles-based alternative rock collective CUNTROL has officially signed to Vaux Records, joining the newly formed label and marking a volatile new entry into the city’s burgeoning indie scene.
Uncompromising in both sound and intent, CUNTROL operates at the intersection of hardcore, indie rock, and experimental noise—channeling distortion-heavy aggression, melodic abrasion, and unfiltered emotional release into a style that feels as confrontational as it is cathartic. Drawing loose comparisons to boundary-pushing contemporaries like Mannequin Pussy, Scowl, and Momma, the band instead leans into something more unstable and self-defined: a sound built to rupture as much as it resonates.
Fronted by Anissa Rodriguez, whose vocal delivery cuts between fury and fragility, CUNTROL is anchored by a lineup with deep roots across heavy music and alternative scenes. Guitarist and producer Daniel Shapiro brings a dense, textural approach shaped by years in rock and metal production, while drummer Brittany Maccarello drives the project with precision-built intensity. The band’s low-end architecture is shaped by Gigi Zimmer, a cutting-edge engineer at Warner Music, whose experimental approach helps blur the line between chaos and control.
Reflecting on the signing and the band’s next chapter, Rodriguez shares, “We are ready to hit the ground running with Vaux Records. We feel excited and welcomed by Craig and the rest of our family/team over at Vaux.”
CUNTROL’s music is rooted in confrontation—of industry dysfunction, sexual politics, personal collapse, and the emotional residue left behind. It doesn’t sanitize that tension; it amplifies it.
Their debut album, slated for release in late 2026, expands on that ethos with a sound that swings between post-punk abrasion and alt-rock catharsis.
The band’s new single, “Sane,” arrives as a striking pivot point in their early catalog. Serving as the third release from the group, following the recent songs “Flatline” and “Cesspool,” the track leans into a more atmospheric palette—pulling from shoegaze haze and grunge-era melancholy, with a distinctly ‘90s emotional weight that contrasts its otherwise volatile foundation.
Speaking about the track, Rodriguez says, “I’m so excited to share a softer side of CUNTROL with our new single ‘Sane.’ This song is one of my favorites on the album and it blends a wider dynamic range than our previous releases. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it and experience it live.”
With “Sane,” CUNTROL doesn’t conform to structure—they dismantle the concept altogether.
