ELLEGARDEN, a defining force in Japan’s rock scene, have surprise-released their new single “Everything I Need,” marking their first new music in 14 months following “Carmine,” which served as the 28th opening theme for the globally popular anime series ONE PIECE.

The band premiered the song live at Zepp Fukuoka on October 13, the opening night of their BAD FOR EDUCATION TOUR II, before releasing it digitally at 9:00 PM JST that evening. A new artist photo was also unveiled to coincide with the release.

Their first headlining tour in approximately three years takes its name from their 2004 tour, the 14-show run spans seven cities in Japan and South Korea, culminating in two nights at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO on December 8 and 9, marking the band’s first performances at the venue.

Formed in 1998, ELLEGARDEN is a four-piece Japanese rock band featuring Takeshi Hosomi (vocals/guitar), Shinichi Ubukata (guitar), Yuichi Takada (bass), and Hirotaka Takahashi (drums).

ELLEGARDEN rose to prominence through word of mouth, record store support, and electrifying live performances, building a devoted fanbase without relying on mainstream media exposure. Their memorable melodies and fiercely independent approach helped propel them to the top of Japan’s Oricon charts, a rare achievement for an independent band.

In 2008, at the height of their popularity, ELLEGARDEN unexpectedly announced a hiatus. When they made a comeback a decade later in 2018, announcing a return tour titled THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN, the response was nothing short of extraordinary. Even fans who couldn’t get tickets gathered outside ZOZO Marine Stadium, hoping to hear even a little of the live performance. The band later headed to Los Angeles to record their first studio album in 16 years, The End of Yesterday, which was released in December 2022. In 2023, they returned to ZOZO Marine Stadium for a show that sold out on the day tickets went on sale.

ELLEGARDEN’s fanbase now stretches well beyond Japan, with the band bringing their live shows to audiences across Asia and Europe. In 2025, they joined forces with British rock band FEEDER for the Sonic Bridges Tour, bringing both bands to audiences in Japan, Taiwan, and Europe. Later that year, ELLEGARDEN released “Carmine,” as the opening theme for ONE PIECE, their first song written specifically for an anime.
