CABAL Release “If I Hang, Let Me Swing” (JOHN CXNNOR Rework)

Having just returned from the European leg of their Magno Interitus headline tour, there’s no rest for the wicked for Danish deathcore maniacs CABAL. They’ve released a new rework of their song ‘‘If I Hang, Let Me Swing’, which saw the band partner with Danish industrial-techno collective JOHN CXNNOR. The result of this energetic collaboration sees the light of the day today. Listen to the song here:
https://cabal.bfan.link/IIHLMS-RW
Singer Andreas Bjulver states:
“John Cxnnor are one of our favorite acts on the Danish scene, the way they manage to bridge the gap between electronic music and metal is truly impressive and since we’ve already collaborated with them on a bunch of tracks, having them do a complete rework of one seemed like a no brainer to us. We couldn’t be happier with the result, this is electronic music at it’s hardest and grittiest.”

‘If I Hang, Let Me Swing (John Cxnnor Rework)’ was taken from the band’s latest album Magno Interitus that was released on October 21st via Nuclear Blast. The album is available as Digipack [limited edition], Black Single LP, Crystal Clear with Gold + Black Splatter Single LP [limited to 500 units, Mailorder + Wholesale exclusive], Crystal Clear with Red + Black Splatter Single LP [limited to 500 units, USA exclusive], Gold + Black Marble Single LP [limited to 300 units, bandshop exclusives] and on all streaming platforms.

CABAL is one of the most brutal and promising heavy acts hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band aims to create a visceral and doom-laden atmosphere throughout both their music and visual expression. The production is crystal clear, whilst the songwriting draws inspiration from everything from black and death metal to djent and hardcore. Since the release of their debut album “Mark of Rot” in 2018, the young band has managed to make a name for themselves in both Denmark and the rest of the world by playing renowned festivals like Copenhell, Roskilde Festival, Euroblast Festival and Complexity Fest as well as touring in Europe, Japan and North America.
CABAL released the sophomore album “Drag Me Down” in April 2020 – a dark descent into a personal hell brought to life by crushing instrumentals, an oppressive atmosphere and dark personal lyrics delivered with relentless intensity, while still leaving room for experimentation and expansion of CABAL’s signature sound. Add to this guest appearances from metal titans TRIVIUM‘s Matt Heafy, rising metalcore stars POLARIS’ Jamie Hails and Denmark’s Blackgaze darlings MØL’s Kim Song Sternkopf and there is no doubt that CABAL is a band with friends in every corner of the metal scene.

About Magno Interitus

In the early winter of 2022, CABAL marked a new era with the release of Magno Interitus. Singer Andreas Bjulver Paarup says: “The main theme on the album is the great decay happening all around us. It seems that everything just falls apart in these days. This applies to politics, society in general as well as some personal things. We tried to translate the feelings that we have about the state of the world into music.”

CABAL are not only charting new territory with their visceral and doom-laden sound but are also moving out of the comforts of their dark, black and white signature aesthetic into bright colours inspired from Ari Asters latest masterpiece, ‘Midsommar’. Flowers, vines and eerie cultist May Queens are amongst the new visual elements that define the aesthetic of Magno Interitus.

Andreas, who is the art director and lyricist in the band, is excited about the new direction of the album: “We have a kind of base sound, our safe home. From there, we can experiment and try something new. On Magno Interitus we really left our comfort zone and went deeper into the details and extremes than ever before. You can hear it on the title track, as well as on the opener “If I Hang, Let Me Swing” or on “Exsanguination”. These are my personal three favourites on the album at the moment.”

Once more, CABAL brought in some extraordinary features on the album such as Joe ‘Bad’ Badolato of Fit For An Autopsy on Magno Interitus, as well as Simon Olsen from the Danish band BÆST on the track “Insidious”. This time around, CABAL also experimented with a completely different format by inviting the dark, industrial duo ‘John Cxnnor’ to co-create the very unique track “Blod af Mit”.

CABAL is:
Andreas Bjulver Paarup – Vocals
Christian Hammer Mattesen – Guitars
Chris Kreutzfeldt – Guitars
Lui Broch Larsen – Guitars
Dennis Hursid – Bass
Nikolaj Kaae Kirk – Drums

Over the years, the group has ignited a diehard fan base. Picking up where critically acclaimed 2015’s ‘Ascendants’ and 2017’s ‘Revelation’ left off, the band expands their patented deathcore punch with brutal heaviness and moments of unrelenting technicality and precision in their latest single, Mass ProducedOceano utilizes thought-provoking lyricism that continues to elevate them within the landscape of heavy music, a key to their success over the past decade.

Apogean presents their inaugural full-length “Cyberstrictive” scheduled for 08 March 2024 via The Artisan Era

Hueman (The Pleasure of Burn) video out now

Canadian tech/prog death metal group Apogean presents their inaugural full-length, Cyberstrictive, scheduled for 08 March 2024 via The Artisan Era on vinyl, CD, and digital. Marking the debut with the new vocalist Mac Smith (who recently served as the live vocalist of Decrepit Birth), the upcoming album poignantly explores the dark side of technology, shedding light on its poisonous effects on our lives.

Apogean is a five-piece band from Toronto, Ontario, seeking to transcend metal’s traditional realms with their musical machinations. Drawing inspiration from a broad spectrum of artistic influences, this Canadian ensemble is set to embark on an unending journey, exploring the intersections of progressive metal, technical death, deathcore, and blackened death, positioning themselves at the forefront of heavy music’s ever-evolving landscape.

Despite their recent formation, Apogean features members bringing years of honed skills, diverse collaborations across genres, endorsements from leading musical instrument brands, and notable ventures into video game collaborations and licensing original compositions featured on ESPN. Their debut EP, Into Madness, was released in June 2021 through Blood Blast distribution, with mixing and mastering from renowned metal producer Zack Ohren (The Faceless, All Shall Perish, Immolation, etc.).

Cyberstrictive, the debut album, is Apogean’s first venture with the new vocalist Mac Smith, known for his involvement in various projects and recent stint as the live vocalist for Decrepit Birth. Beyond his vocal responsibilities, Mac, with a background in managing notable metal bands, also independently oversees the management of Apogean.

Across 10 songs, Cyberstrictive discloses the dark aspects of technology, taking a broader look at its impact on our minds, bodies, and souls. Drawing significant inspiration from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and echoing the dystopian excerpts of George Orwell’s 1984, the album explores the hazards of modern technology, covering risks such as sensory damage, psychological trauma, desensitization, information paradoxes, predatory practices targeting children, addiction complexities, and the erosion of creativity. Ultimately, the album culminates in a reflection on overarching manipulation and concludes by addressing the burdensome aspects of technology, employing wordplay and metaphor to illustrate the overwhelming drawbacks outweighing the benefits in the modern digital world.

Band To Kick Off European Tour With Shadow Of Intent

Progressive deathcore outfit ENTERPRISE EARTH today unleashes a brand new song entitled “Death Magick.” The lengthy track stands among the band’s darkest, most relentless and plainly scathing songs of their extensive sonic arsenal.

Offers ENTERPRISE EARTH guitarist Gabe Mangold, “We are very excited to present our heaviest, most aggressive, and unforgivingly wild track to date, ‘Death Magick.’ We pulled from all of our heavy influences to create a seven-minute roller coaster of a death metal song. This is also the first of two singles releasing this month so keep an eye out for the second soon!”

The release of “Death Magick” comes in advance of ENTERPRISE EARTH’s upcoming European tour supporting Shadow Of Intent. The Elegy tour kicks off January 6th in Wiesbaden, Germany and runs through February 1st in Karlsruhe, Germany. Additional support will be provided by AngelMaker and To The Grave. ENTERPRISE EARTH’s most recent full-length, The Chosen, was released last January via MNRK Heavy. Distorted Sound crowned The Chosen the band’s, “heaviest album to date,” noting it’s both a “physically grabbing album, but also emotionally battering.” Blabbermouth hailed a record that’s “huge and definitive,” MetalSucks lauded “the most vicious, the most technical, and… the catchiest offering in the band’s already-impressive repertoire,” Metal Injection championed the band’s “signature heartfelt, emotive lyrics,” while New Transcendence commended, “the most memorable ENTERPRISE EARTH release to date.” The Chosen continues to amaze fans and critics globally.

The Chosen is available on CD, LP, cassette, and digitally. Find ordering options at THIS LOCATION where the record can be streamed in full.

LIVE REVIEW: IN FLAMES US FALL TOUR 2022

Gothenburg, Sweden has given us many metal bands and is considered one of the worlds hotbeds for melodic death metal genre. In Flames is very important piece of Gothenburg metal scene as they pioneered this distinct genre along with likes of At The Gates and Dark Tranquility. This fall the band has crossed the ocean and are in the midst of North American Tour along side Fit For An Autopsy, Orbit Culture and Vended.

Written by Andris Jansons

The first band I witnessed that night was New Jersey’s own Fit For An Autopsy. Deathcore practitioners from Jersey City formed back in 2008 and have been staple of deathcore scene since. Last Thursday’s show was their homecoming of sort as Jersey City is just about forty minute drive from Sayreville, NJ. Their set was full of energy and loud. Well, I must say a little too loud. My personal take is that sound engineers could have dialed down one notch, as it was pretty painful for the ears in the pit and front rows. That later was rectified for In Flames set. Nonetheless band was great, as their setlist emphasized on their latest release Oh What the Future Holds. Band is scheduled later in October to take part in Lamb Of God tour.

I think that is safe to say that thirteen studio albums later In Flames are considered in the heavyweight class. Grammis awards winning band (not to be confused with Grammy Awards) has not released album since 2019 however is working on new material and are poised to release one soon, as two new songs already has been introduced to the fans. Latest one of them The Great Deceiver was the bands choice for an opening song. Their set was fairly large and consisted of 17 songs spanning and represented almost every single of their albums released (except Siren Charms) and not yet released. The Great Deceiver was followed by Fear Is The Weakness before taking the trip down a memory lane to early beginnings with Cloud Connected and Stand Ablaze.

This tour features ex-Megadeth Chris Broderick filling in for Niclas Engelin, for like three years straight now. While seems like there is still no clear resolution with Niclas being with the band, Chris is really fitting well and seems to be in the right place.

Full photo gallery for In Flames here.

From notable songs bands setlist consisted of ones like I Am Above, Episode 666 and Take This Life. For the closing song bands choice went to My Sweet Shadow.

In Flames will continue to tour till the end of September with a quick stop at Louder Than Life Festival and then continue in October with Meshuggah and later with Born Of Osiris before returning to Europe. List of dates available below.
