Half Inch Hero is a post-hardcore band based in South Florida. Band’s slogan is “emo for the planet” because the bulk of discography concerns environmental and scientific themes—such as climate change (see “Moonblood Dance”), scientific/animal ethics, technology, outer space (see “The Martian”), and extinction (see “Thylacine”)—presented in an emo package. Band also writes and records songs concerning more typical themes in the genre (see “Dragonfly”). With more recent recordings, listeners have likened them to bands like From First To Last and Underoath.
Five-piece band consists of Tasman Rosenfeld (lead vocals and primary songwriter), Alex Abbasi (drums, also known as the drummer for Bloodbather and The Requiem), Jackson McKenna (rhythm guitar), Christian Ballon (lead guitar), and Brennan Hegedus (bass). Tasman is currently a graduate student at Harvard University studying evolutionary biology and science education, and his work as a conservationist and professional scientist serves as the ideological inspiration behind bands music.
In the spring and summer of 2023, band recorded self-titled first LP with Lee Dyess. The songs were mixed and mastered by Kyle Black, and the record is slated for release in May 2024. On February 16, band released the first single and music video, “Moonblood Dance”. On April 22, 2024, to honor Earth Day, band released the second single and music video from the record which is titled “Martyr”.
