At Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, PA on May 17th, 2024 with Above Snakes, Thrower and Blank ID

The iconic heavy metal bands Saliva and Drowning Pool have joined forces for the SNAFU Le Tour 2024 to serve their fans an amazing trek down the memory lane with all of their biggest hits. On this day in Stroudsburg, PA they were joined by Above Snakes, Thrower and Blank ID.

First up was a local band from Pennsylvania called Blank ID. While personally I was unfamiliar with them or their music, they did leave a pleasant experience memory from their set. Some loud hard rock with excellent cohesiveness amongst members of the band and overall professionalism and talent.

Blank ID was followed by rock band Thrower from Texas. Once again it was a pleasant introduction to their music as I had not heard them before. While they are just as a new band, Thrower sounded more mature in sort of the way of performance and on-stage demeanor.

Boston, Massachusetts band Above Snakes came out “guns blazing” and blasted their nu metal / hard rock onto the fans with great ferocity. Very soon though it had to come to a full stop as the sound equipment suffered a major failure. For a moment band lost additional microphones and then guitars with only drums and lead singer Johhny Skulls audible in the Theater. They tried to play through in hopes that the situation would be rectified soon enough, but to no avail. However, the band did it so masterfully that even vocals with only drums sounded great!

So, what about the band itself? They seem to tap into the same style as From Ashes To New, Hollywood Undead and others who embrace rap singing and rock music. Each band member goes by a nickname – Band Members: Bamm Bamm Lamm – Drums, Dax Dabs – Guitarist, Tommy Gun – Bass, Johnny Skulls – Lead Singer.

Next came the heavyweights, the main course, the stars, whatever you want to call them. Drowning Pool features the return of their vocalist Ryan McCombs who previously parted ways with the band back in 2011. Bands setlist featured all their biggest hits like Sinner, Tear Away and Bodies. The last two songs came with quite a long tease and during Bodies Ryan McCombs jumped in the crowd to sing together. Another notable song, at least for me, was Rebel Yell, Billy Idol’s mega hit cover, and I’ll say that the band did a great job making this a heavier song without losing the familiar rhythm. Band also did patriotic speech before Feel Like I Do to thank all veterans. Feel Like I Do is one the bands highest ranking singles along with 37 Stitches.

On March 22, 2023, guitarist and founding member Wayne Swinny died at the age of 59. He was the last original member who remained with the band. To commemorate Swinny the band chose to display a large image of his likeness on the backdrop and drums. So, for those who have followed Saliva for the third decade now only vocalist Bobby Amaru who has been with the band since 2011 is the most familiar face.

While people and friendships unite us so does music. And what a trip down memory lane this was. Band opened with Ladies and Gentleman, personally I don’t know any song that is more suited to be a set opener than this one. They continued with Superstar and Come Back Stronger. The biggest “Boom” was reserved for the end of the show with a perfect trifecta of Always, Your Disease and Click Click Boom.
