MĀRA is a death/thrash/groove metal band from Latvia. The band was established 2018, but has already performed at summer metal festivals and tours in Italy, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, United Kingdom,
Latvia alongside famous metal acts like Sepultura, Krisiun, Satyricon, Septicflesh, Bloodywood and others.

The band has been rated #1 for ‘Brutal Female Fronted Metal’ and has scored in the TOP 6 best EP releases of 2018 and vocalist Māra Lisenko has topped many “Best Female Metal Vocalists” polls.


So far Māra has recorded two albums – THERAPY FOR AN EMPATH 2018 and SELF- DESTRUCT. SURVIVE.THRIVE! 2020.


Photos from MĀRA performance at Zombifest 2024 in Vaive, Latvia. Band was the main and closing act of the open air festival. Māra not just did her best as vocalist, but also engaged with audience, encouraging them in different kind of mosh pits.

Māra Lisenko – Vocals
Māra has studied vocals in London’s “Vocaltech” (Thames Valley University) in 2007 as well as privately and in masterclasses with world-known rock/metal vocal coach Melissa Cross, rockstar vocal coach Mark Baxter, ‘Death Metal Phoniatrician’ Dr. Enrico H Di Lorenzo and metal superstar vocalists Derrick Green from “Sepultura”.
Denis Melnik – Guitar
Over the years, Denis worked with such famous musicians and producers as Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, Soilwork), Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Evergrey), Magnus Soderman (Nightrage, Slapdash),
Magnus Klavborn (Engel, The Duskfall), Esben Hansen (Hatesphere). Denis was a member of such bands as Ultra, Gust Of Anger, Remains, Pigs Eat Bulls (as a drummer), Trendkill Method.
Dmitry Lisenko – Bass
Dmitry has been playing bass guitar since he was 16 years old. Dmitry has performed across Europe and released a solo album of original compositions. He has won several bass guitar competitions,
including the 2015 Russian Bass Player Competition, and he has appeared at festivals like the London Bass Guitar Show, Bass Day St. Petersbourg, Bazzday 2016 in Moscow and the Warwick Bass
Camp. Dmitry’s work has been published by the likes of Ultimate Guitar, Candyrat records, iBass Magazine, NoTreble, Bass The World, and many others.
Alberts Mednis – Drums
After Olympic weightlifting years and years of video game testing, he started to play on pillows with size 18 spanners at age of 20, while watching other bands on DVD at home. The energy what he found so compelling and powerful came from the bands and especially the drummers. He has played in many bands, but now he’s found the right place for himself – in band MĀRA.
