THESE WOMEN ROCKED OUT HARD AND LOUD FOR WOMEN ROCK LA’S FIRST EVER SHOWCASE!
On this epic evening Friday July 19, 2024, FOUR AMAZING AND TALENTED AND POWERFUL WOMEN ARTISTS (and their bands), ROCKED OUT HARD AND LOUD in the city of Hollywood, CA. These are the four amazing women on this night:
- MARLHY
- JULES & THE HOWL
- BRE
- IZZY T.

There were over 200 people in the audience who came to see these women perform LIVE on stage at Lucky Strike Hollywood. A sea of media photographers and videographers filled the small photo pit on this night. I counted 9 total and I believe this is a record for this tiny venue. We were all vying for the best spots to get the perfect shots. Of course we all pretty much got the perfect shots but I do have to admit and say that we all have the same images for the most part, just from different angles.
Before the musicians played their set, the audience were entertained by a female DJ named Andrea Love and a female comedian/emcee/host named Katie Novotny.
MARLHY (1st Act)
The first artist on this night was MARLHY aka Marlhy Murphy. Marlhy is an American Multi-instrumentalist Musician (Drums, Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Flute, and Ukulele) whose résumé includes working with such fine bands as The Regrettes, Pretty Little Demons, Zeppos, and more. Born in Dallas Texas, Marlhy began playing drums at around 7 years old and started taking classes at School of Rock. At 10 years old, she became the youngest artist to perform at a South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival and quickly garnered the attention of all music fans in general and people in the music industry.
On this night, the now 22 year old Marlhy set off the evening and showed us her great skills in both drumming and singing. In my humble opinion, this has got to be one of the hardest things to do if you are a musician, playing drums and singing at the same time because you are not only setting the timing and pace for everyone with your feet and your hands pounding hard on your instrument, but you also have to make sure you hit all those notes properly and accordingly and not missing a beat while singing your heart out. I only know of a few artists who can do this for an entire set flawlessly and Marlhy is one of them. Truly amazing.

JULES & THE HOWL (2nd Act)
Someone once said that “If the Struts and The Killers had a threesome with a keytar, you would get Jules & The Howl.” – Anonymous
Quote of the century! AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I first met Jules a couple of years ago at a venue called The Mint in LA when she was in the audience supporting one of her musician friends while I was photographing her friend’s set. We ended up talking and introducing ourselves to each other and danced and rocked out on the floor. Months later, I saw her perform at The World Famous Whisky A Go Go on a jam night, Jules got on the stage and sang and howled a song for us mere mortals while electrifying us with her stage presence and powerful vocals. I have been following her ever since and have seen her perform and have photographed her live set multiple times and every single performance is just pure magic and fun and full of excitement and energy.
And the same can be said on this night for WOMEN ROCK LA’s first ever showcase: Jules & The Howl ROCKED OUT HARD AND LOUD and set The City of Hollywood ablaze with her music and performance.
On that note…AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is Jules’ trademark whenever she gets on the stage. As stated on her website, “The Howl is the release of everything pent up inside of me begging to be free.“ That pent up energy inside of Jules were released and freed on this night. Actually, all that pent up energy is released every time she is in her natural element playing, performing, and creating music live on stage or in the studio or just her being a musician in her own space.

BRE (3rd Act)
Musician/Singer/Artist BRE and Founder and Co-Creator of WOMEN ROCK LA continued the evening by giving a powerful performance with her style of hard hitting, kick-ass pounding, and high energy Rock Music—a blend of Classic and alternative Rock all forged into a style that can only be described as outstanding and amazing
Matching the Raw Energy and electrified performance by the other Co-Creator of WOMEN ROCK LA before her set, Jules & The Howl, BRE mesmerized the audience with her sultry and intense vocals and gave the audience what they wanted, A refined taste of Rock and Roll. BRE is a master of getting the audience to groove and rock out to her music. She was constantly engaging with the crowd as she passionately sang all her songs as if she was singing to each person on a one-on-one basis, like serenading your true love.
BRE started her journey in music as a Country Artist at 15 years old and spent years honing her craft and developing a style of her own which led her to where she is now in the realm of Rock and Roll. Her sound is Unique, Raw, Badass and Authentic or as I would call and describe it “BRE-standing Symphonic Sounds of Authentic Rock and Roll Badassery”.

IZZY T (4th Act)
The final act from this night kept the energy alive by British-Iranian Pop/Rock/Alternative Artist, Izzy T. She joined at the last minute replacing another musician who was originally in the line up. Izzy T’s seductive style and flair of Alternative Rock/Pop fusion give a new meaning to the word Sass. Her vocals, as described by Rolling Stone, are “Fierce” and her music, on this night, was driven hard by electronic beats and guitar tracks that are fiery and feverish along with a drummer who was explosive behind his instrument to match the same charged up energy Izzy T emanated on stage.
Despite leaving early and only staying for a couple of songs, what I saw and heard from Izzy T was pure raw and intensity in her singing and her music coupled that by her nuclear and powerful stage presence showing us all a confident female artist who is unstoppable and driven with her craft.

FINAL NOTE
Congratulations to WOMEN ROCK LA on a successful sold out show for their 1st showcase ever. Keep creating great music and keep on Rocking hard and I will see you on the stage somewhere while I’m in the photo pit capturing those moments.
