Ukrainian progressive metal band Jinjer just kicked off their headlining North American tour with a thunderous performance at The Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. On this tour they are supported by Hanabie a Japanese metalcore band from Tokyo and American progressive metalcore band Born Of Osiris.

Born Of Osiris took the stage first. Stage set to darkness, blue and red light to immerse you in the band’s vibe. Last month the band released their latest single In Desolation with a few more singles preceding this one. Their latest album Angel Or Alien was released back in 2021 via Sumerian Records. Bands core has been constant with founding member Cameron Losch on drums and vocalist Ronnie Canizaro since early days of the band. Lee McKinney is on rhythm guitar and Nick Rossi on bass. Their set was heavy and immersive into the complexity of their compositions making the crowd not only to cheer, crowd surf but to indulge themselves in to the all aspects of bands message. It was a wholesome performance fit to open up this tour.

Next came the guests from Tokyo, Japan – all girls metalcore band Hanabie. Their set was fully opposite of opener Born Of Osiris. Cheerful and colorful proposition with a heavy dose of metal. Girls don’t shy to scream and growl, with a bit of anime fashion statements.

Personally, for me this was the first introduction to the band. Besides hearing some songs online and from friends posts I wasn’t much informed about them. The song that I am familiar with is Metamorphose, release few weeks ago. While their style is considered metalcore, my impression is that in general guidelines they fall under Kawaii metal classification. During their set they even were teaching audience to correctly pronounce Kawaii – ka·waii (in Japanese popular culture appealing in an endearing way; cute). So if you are a fan of Kawaii metal bands like Babymetal, Lovebytes and others, then get on Hanabie train!

The night’s main attention shifted to Jinjer. Ukrainian heavy hitters have captured the world’s attention by their unapologetic heavy songs mixed with some beautifully melodic verses by Tatiana Shmayluk. Jinjer has toured together with such metal legends like Disturbed, Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine, and on conclusion of their North American headline tour they will accompany the legendary Sepultura on their European farewell tour. In 2022 after their home country was invaded the band decided to take time off but later did embark on touring as and ambassadors for their country and the fight they wage against the aggressor. The heaviness that weigh on their hearts was evident during the performance of the song Retrospection, a song about family. Before the song Tatiana noted that their families remain in Ukraine during this war time and dedicated this song to them. The band hails from the city of Donetsk which is currently under occupation since 2014.

Jinjer currently are working on their fifth studio album and have released several singles with the latest Rogue hitting airwaves a little more than a week ago. All of their new material was on full display tonight together with their most notable singles to date. Jinjer love to tour, and all that touring experience combined with musicians being extremely talented provided audience with flawless and powerful live music experience.

Today, you will find Jinjer performing during Metal Injection Fest in Brooklyn. From there the tour will continue until mid-October. Get your tickets here: http://jinjer-metal.com/tour

About JINJER: Through their relentless hard work, non-stop touring, and critically acclaimed, chart-breaking releases gaining millions of streams/views across all platforms globally, JINJER is truly one of modern metal’s hottest and most exciting bands around today. The band has become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the heavy metal handbook – which they proved loud and clear on their hugely successful fourth studio album, ‘Wallflowers’. The four-piece progressive groove metal wrecking machine known as JINJER has carved their very own place in the metal landscape. JINJER was formed in 2009, but consider the official start of the band to have happened with the addition of incredible vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk in 2010.
