I had the opportunity to sit down and interview a local Los Angeles guitarist Billy Sablan, who is extremely talented. He has played in the Los Angeles music scene for many years, and performs with a few amazing bands in LA.
How did you first get into music?
Music has been a lifelong obsession. I’ve been into music for as long as I can remember. My grandmother had one of those big console tv/stereos. When I was very young I used to lift the lid of the record player and stand there biting the edge of the console while watching the record spin. I was obsessed with records. My parents listened to music a lot and when I was in first or second grade they got me a record player and a box full of 45’s. I think it was third grade when I got heavily into the Beatles and they are the band that made me want to play music. I know, an odd band for a third grader to be obsessed with but it happened.
What instruments can you play?
I started out on drums and played percussion in a junior high school band. I shifted to guitar soon after that and haven’t looked back. I can still somewhat play drums, but I don’t dare call myself a drummer. I can pick up the bass when necessary.
Where do you see your musical career in 10 years?
No idea really. At the least plucking around the house and coming up with riffs/songs.
Which instrument is your favorite to play?
Guitar.
What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?
Playing for the song.
Who is your favorite musician?
Ohhh….that’s a hard one. Hendrix and EVH are all time favorite guitarists. Metallica is my all time favorite band. Prince is the master of practically everything.
What is your proudest accomplishment as a musician?
Songwriting.
What interests or hobbies do you have outside of music?
Photography, especially sunsets. I love to cook. Horror movies. Coffee.
