The all female 3 piece Rock Group called THE DEFFADES, (Hmmm…I think I’m going to dub them as THE FAB THREE and let’s see if this catches on) gave another spectacular performance on Friday night, June 6, 2025.

Although I wasn’t able to capture any LIVE shots with my Pro gears due to restrictions and house rules by the venue (only a very small select number of photographers are allowed to photograph inside the venue for free; otherwise, the band or the photographer/videographer pays their house fee of $150-$200), I was able to photograph THE FAB THREE outside the venue for some group portraits.
Also included in this report is a video clip (SEE BELOW) that I recorded previously at another venue to showcase how great the music is from THE FAB THREE.

So for this report, I decided to have a conversation/Q&A with THE DEFFADES aka THE FAB THREE instead along with some photos I took of them outside the venue:
QUERY #1:

Hello THE DEFFADES! Thanks for taking the time to talk to me and S.L.R. MAGAZINE. First of all, congratulations on being the headliner at The Viper Room. How is everyone doing? What were your feelings like when you ladies were announced as the headliner on this night at the renowned venue The Viper Room, which I believe if I’m not mistaken is your first time here at this music venue, am I correct?
THE DEFFADES:
Hiii! Yes, it was our first time at the Viper Room. We were so honored and excited to play at such a renowned venue, and we are so grateful that we were given the opportunity to play there (and as headliners ahhh!) It was kind of a “pinch-me” moment for us.

That’s AWESOME! So glad to hear about your great “PINCH-ME” moment and experience at The Viper Room. Correct me if I’m wrong, but so far, I believe this is number 5 or 6 for you ladies that you have performed live in front of an audience in less than a year since you debuted last year at The Redwood Bar and Grill. Which venue is your favorite or most memorable so far to have played LIVE in front of an audience, and please elaborate and tell us why and what made it so special? Also, where would you love for THE DEFFADES to play next in 2025 and beyond?
EDIE:
This was actually our 11th show! I know because I keep a record of all the shows we’ve played haha. My personal favorite place to play so far has been the Bourbon Room. We were performing there as a part of a Feminine Energy fundraiser (founded by Ella Jay Basco) for the Alexandria House; a local house that supports women and children in need. It was such a great vibe, and everyone was so happy to be there. Also, it’s such an awesome venue; I love the “hole in the wall” feel of it. As for where I would love to play in the future, I would have to say the Troubadour. I’ve seen some great shows there, and plus, it’s iconic. But if we’re talking outside of LA, I’d go with the Cavern Club in Liverpool. I don’t think I need to say why.
RUBY:
Agreed! The Bourbon Room has been my favorite venue to play at so far. So many of our friends were in the crowd that night, it felt so special and fun. That said, the Viper Room is definitely a close second. It was so amazing playing in a venue that has such a rich history and legacy. Also, I personally would love to play the Wiltern (we saw the Regrettes’ last show there!)
CHAR:
I’d agree with that! The Viper Room might have beat the Bourbon Room just a little bit for me because it’s a venue I’ve always dreamed of playing. But playing anywhere with these girls is always undeniably the best, even if we are just in the garage for band practice.

QUERY #3:

So Awesome. Those are all great music venues. And thanks for correcting me on the venue count. So we now know which ones are your favorites to perform or have performed so far and which ones you would love to play someday. Now as far as your music and your originals, which one is your favorite to play, individually or as a group, and why?
EDIE:
I would have to say either “Tease Me, So” or “Yours If You Want It.” “Tease Me, So” is the song where I can go crazy and just rock out, so that one is always fun to play. I also love “Yours If You Want It” because it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written and I love the way we’ve arranged it. It’s kind of a sad song, but it provides a change of pace during our set.
RUBY:
“Between the Lines” is one of my personal favorites. I like to call it our “epic”. The first time we played that song full out in our little garage I think I transcended.
CHAR:
I’d say my favorite to play is probably our song “Doghouse” because since we tend to open with it, I feel like it always sets good groundwork for the spirit we want to bring onstage. I love the energy of that song and how it really locks us in for the show.
QUERY #4:

For me, ever since I saw you for the first time at The Bourbon Room, you ladies have been one of the best discoveries in the local LA Music Scene with your beautiful sounds and style. So I thank you for sharing with us mere mortals your music. All your songs are GREAT for me! With your new single that you recently released about a month ago, “Between The Lines”, which by the way, I’m actually listening to right now on YouTube as I’m interviewing you, what can your fans expect to see or hear released next? Is it a secret? If it is, can you at least give us an idea of when you will be releasing the next single?
THE DEFFADES:
Ayyy we’re so glad you’re listening and enjoying it! We definitely have plans for releases in the future. Expect a single in the next month or so, and we’re going to be heading into the studio to finish our album now that summer has started. Shhh…you heard it here first.
QUERY #5:
DON/S.L.R. MAGAZINE:
MY LIPS ARE SEALED. I won’t say a word to anyone. Hehehe. Thanks for that tidbit. So when it comes to your music once again, can you describe to us your creative process on how you write and arrange your music? Do you write individually, do you write together, do you ask others to help you with the writing of the lyrics and the music? Do you go to a cave and write and get inspired by nature and darkness :)? Please elaborate.
EDIE:
Me and Charlotte are our principal songwriters, but our overall songwriting process is very much a collaboration. Sometimes one of us will come to band practice with a full song, or half a song, or just an idea for a song with a couple lyrics or chords, and then we work together to create an arrangement. The best feeling is when someone brings a song in, and the others say they feel as if they could’ve written it themselves, because then it feels like we’re all on the same wavelength musically. And if one of us can’t find the perfect way to articulate a feeling or thought, one of the others will. But sometimes Char will just start playing a random riff in the middle of band practice and a song will come out of that.
RUBY:
I love our songwriting process. Just like Edie said, sometimes one of us will come to rehearsal with a melody, a riff, or lyrics, and we get to collaborate with each other and fill in the missing pieces.
CHAR:

QUERY #6:
DON/S.L.R. MAGAZINE:
LOVE IT! You ladies are truly awesome! One of the things I have seen in the past decade with music is that artists love to collaborate with other artists. If there is one or two or three bands or artist/s you would love to collaborate with, current or past even waaaaaay past, like a particular band from the 60’s #iykyk hehehe who would it be and why?
EDIE:
It’s a dream to have Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) produce an album of ours. I would die of happiness. Although I do need him to stop producing other people’s stuff and release his own album. (Just kidding Kev, take your time). Also, it goes without saying that getting on stage with any of my musical heroes from the ‘60s and ‘70s would be insane. I would love to maybe work with Pete Townshend or Paul. I don’t need to say which Paul, right? That’s wishful thinking, obviously, but a girl can dream.
CHAR:
I think we’d also love to be on the same wavelength as the stars of the 2000s post punk NYC scene like Sleater-Kinney, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes- all those fools. If Karen O liked us, I’d be set for life.

Did you hear that Karen O? Best hit up Char and THE FAB THREE. And to Edie, anything is possible, and I know exactly which Paul you are talking about. He even owns a yellow submarine :). An artist I know from Argentina was picked by Paul from the audience when she was only 8 or 10 years old and played bass on a song with him. So definitely, anything is possible. Just keep creating great music and keep manifesting this dream. And so, for the Last statement I just wanted to say that I love the fact that you each partake in being the lead vocalist. Truly a Team effort.
THE DEFFADES: We are lucky enough to have voices that are unique to ourselves and individuality as singers, but also to be able to blend and match each other so well musically. We harmonize very well together. We made the choice of not just having one singer for this exact reason. It also helps us stand out a little bit!

“Our drummer Edie wrote this song on a borrowed guitar up in Northern California back in 2023. It was one of those songs that just happened naturally. The basic concept that Edie started with was that she had something to give away but it seemed no one wanted it so she decided she might as well just give it away to anyone. This could be interpreted in a few different ways, but she originally wrote it with the intention of the “something that is yours” being her heart. She was willing to give it away to anyone who wanted it.
This song is one of our favorites, both because it’s super fun to play but also because when Edie first played it to the rest of the band, Charlotte (guitarist) and Ruby (bassist) said that it felt like a song that they could’ve written. It’s always such a great feeling when your band mates feel a connection to a song you wrote. We finished the song together by adding a bridge and tweaking the lyrics, so the song became all of ours very quickly and naturally.
It’s a sad song, but there’s also a hopeful element to it. It’s sad in its original meaning, but it’s also sad because the person Edie originally wrote it for is no longer in her life (her choice). But that’s for the best, trust us.
Anyway, “Yours If You Want It” in a nutshell is a song about wanting love. It’s complicated, like most forms of love are, but it’s also simple in a way: if you want it, I’m willing to give it to you.” – THE DEFFADES
