The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles has a movie viewing series called Reel To Reel where music related programs are presented in their 200 seat Clive Davis Theatre. This past week a special screening and panel interview took place for the movie Ron Delsener Presents. In the world of concerts Ron has been known at the King Of New York for his lock on concert promotion being later tagged as The Godfather Of Gigs. His span of activity included everything from clubs to major arenas & outdoor venues up to the epic mega-concert events in New York’s Central Park and explores the beginnings of Mr Delsener in the 60’s to a megaforce power in the world of music. The film casts light on his approach of building personal relationships with artists and often taking a chance on emerging artists such as Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen & KISS as they started small and became big. With his personal approach Ron orchestrated the iconic 1981 Central Park Concert reunion for Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel that was attended by half a million people. The movie itself has a continuing energetic and comedic pace as we weave through Ron’s life and his over-the-top personality, a lot of the iconic performers he worked with for an overall film experience that doesn’t have a dull moment.

Kicking off the evening was an intro by Gene Simmons of KISS who set the stage for the mood of the film to follow. Post-viewing we were treated to a panel discussion moderated by former music industry exec Bob Merlis interviewing Mr Delsener joined by producers Jake Sumner & Margaret Munzer. The evening was quite entertaining.

This film has been making the rounds with various regional viewings and festivals across the US and is still looking for a home. On the Heels Of The Norman’s Rare Guitars film of late Netflix is probably the perfect platform for this production, this needs to be seen by more people!
