After 7 years of being away, the return of the Great Japanese Rock Band, SCANDAL, sparked up so much love and joy and gave those gifts away to Angelenos and their fans on Wednesday June 25, 2025 for their first stop of this tour at the historic music venue, THE BELASCO THEATER.

An hour before the doors opened some familiar faces and die hard fans, whom I met before from other JROCK shows, greeted me with love and joy and high fives as well. I love the JROCK fans and community because they are so generous and super nice. So a big shout out to some of these usual suspects: Wilson, Argenix, and Alfred (The first three in line at 4am) and the rest of the usual suspects I know: Alex, Robert, Rey, Lolli and Brandon, Dan and his Woman, Johnny “apnea” W., and my colleagues Darren, James, Roger, and David—the media crew.
A little bit about SCANDAL from what I gathered over the internet and from talking to some of the fans. Formed back in 2006 in Osaka, Japan, SCANDAL gained popularity and notoriety in 2008 through their street performances. Their style of music is a blend of Rock, Pop, Shoegaze, and Alternative. They are known for their beautiful harmonious rock style and sparks of explosive energy with their LIVE performance and constant interactions with their fans.
The band consists of 4 talented musicians:
HARUNA on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar
MAMI plays Lead Guitar
TOMOMI on Bass
RINA on Drums
Together they are SCANDAL.
On this night at The Belasco Theater, despite the fact that the show wasn’t sold out, the floor was still packed and filled with loving and loyal fans. Throughout the night, the audience clapped and cheered with joyful adulation. A sea of smiling fans were everywhere. The band ’s charm and great musicianship delivered on point all night long while the energy of the audience matched the same joyful and explosive energy by the band.
SCANDAL’s setlist on this night at The Belasco included songs that made them popular and some new ones from their latest EP release:
• Terra Boy
• Oh, Pretty woman
• Yoaken no ryuseigun 夜明けの流星群
• Shojo S 少女S
• LOVE SURVIVE
• Take Me Out テイクミーアウト
• Shunkan Sentimental 瞬間センチメンタル
• Soundly
• eternal
• High-light no nakade bokura zutto ハイライトの中で僕らずっと
• HARUKAZE
• Doukashiterutte どうかしてるって
• EVERYBODY SAY YEAH!
• Saisyuheiki, kimi 最終兵器、君
• image
• Taiyo to kimi ga egaku STORY 太陽と君が描くSTORY
~encore~
• Stamp!
• SCANDAL BABY
SCANDAL is not your typical all female rock band that is non-stop crazy actions with hair flips and high flying jumps and screams. But rather they are a rock band who delivers a more reserved and safe rock sound for the Masses with hints of explosiveness and lots of happy melodic riffs and harmonious vocals. They have a distinct style and sound where one enjoys the sounds that come out from their instruments and their voices: sweet, joyful, emotional, with short sparks of intensity. No theatrics needed. Their authentic stage presence and pure rock style of music, yet reserved at times, speak loud.
This is my first time seeing SCANDAL and definitely won’t be the last. I’ve heard some of their music before through the JROCK community here in LA. Overall, I was very impressed with SCANDAL and immediately became a fan after seeing their performance. I mean how can you not be impressed with this band. After all, they have been awarded by The Guinness World Records for being the “LONGEST RUNNING ROCK BAND WITH THE SAME MUSICIANS (ALL-FEMALE).” This is a great accomplishment in itself. And in 2026, SCANDAL will be celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band. I can’t wait for their return to America next year. I hope I can be part of this momentous event next year. This is a band that you will fall in love with. And to quote Haruna from this show as she waved farewell, “Our hearts will always be with you. We LOVE YOU!”
