The best breakfast can sometimes happen at night. This was the case this week as the rooftop stage at the Grammy Museum in LA welcomed Japanese Breakfast for an evening of interview, Q&A and a mini concert set in advance of the final leg of their 2025 touring.

Since its inception by Michelle Zauner in 2013 Japanese Breakfast has seen an ever-increasing level of popularity that has risen to include festivals such as Coachella and headlining sets at medium sized venues across North America. This year’s touring has been in support of the album “For Melancholy Brunettes & Sad Women” released earlier this March. This album represents a deeply introspective work following a year-long hiatus that saw Zauner move to Seoul Korea to discover and embrace her Korean family roots. Raised in the US she never really learned Korean and following the death of her mother started a journey to attain greater personal cultural insights and awareness. This has included total immersion in the language where she played the student and the usual fits and starts in trying to attain fluency where she even tried out her language skills with the K-Pop group BTS with Korean that was a bit off, but still effective. We’ll probably get further insights once she release her next book which is in progress. The rest of the interview and audience Q&A provided details on how she approaches not only her music but accompanying videos which are known for their creative and lush qualities.

After the interview and Q&A the audience was treated to a wonderful set of 5 songs from the latest album, always a stunning musical experience on the Grammy Museum rooftop.
