Los Angeles band Hysteria, the project of bandleader Dakota Cosgrove, is excited to share their new single, “Angela,” available everywhere now. A demanding melody cuts through guitars that both twinkle and scrape, inching towards collapse—finding reprieve in huge and powerful choruses with drums that kick the listener around like a bloody game of soccer. Today’s release sees the group charging forth with matter-of-fact musings and raw tones, fitting tender honesty into spaces between raucous riffs. Picking up right where they left off, embracing their love of early-aughts pop rock with their own modern twist.   The song was produced by Photographic Memory, who contributes to bands like Wisp, Jane Remover and more.

“Every moment is both an ascension and a decline, leaving you face down on the ground,” Dakota explains. “Angela is the year of your life you want to erase, a desperate cry to be loved, that sick desire to be broken and put back together. Angela is the girl who you let destroy you.”

Last year, Hysteria shared their first single, “Reason to Pray” which introduced fans to their brand of urgent emo, twisting melodic rhythms with confessional lyricism. Dakota’s powerful vocals take center stage as guitars bolster her search for fulfillment, but driving drums only unearth more reasons to pray.

Hysteria debuted their music on stage last year when they supported y2k-inspired pop duo After at their EP release show. Packed performances in California and Texas alongside rising artists like Voyeur, Her New Knife, my point of you, and more followed, cementing their status as a group to watch. On February 26, they’ll support electro-pop artist Tommy Fleece at El Cid in Los Angeles, CA. To stay in the loop on upcoming appearances, follow Hysteria on Instagram at @hysteria___band.

ABOUT HYSTERIA:

Hysteria is the emotional brainchild of musician Dakota Cosgrove. A band that combines heavy guitars with confrontational female vocals and sharp melodic hooks, Hysteria mines emo influences like Mineral, Jejune, Texas Is the Reason, and Sunny Day Real Estate, pulling from the genre’s deepest corners while pushing out its historic patriarchal center.

Hysteria’s music lives in the space between tension and release, where jagged guitars collapse into sudden moments of sweetness. Their songs move with the urgency of their predecessors but are sharpened by a modern, confrontational edge—shifting from hushed vulnerability to explosive catharsis in a matter of seconds. Melodies linger even as the arrangements burn, creating a sound that feels raw, romantic, and unafraid to take up space.

The Los Angeles four-piece exists in contradictions—gentle silhouettes over loud distortion, glamour beside ruin. Fashion plays a central role, acting as armor, language, and refusal all at once. The name Hysteria reaches back into a history that punished women for feeling too much. Here, emotion is necessity, resistance, and power.

Hysteria is a movement.

We cry. We shout. We swag. We shred.
