On the heels of their new eponymous album an American Hard Rock supergroup Alter Bridge are wrapping up their What Lies Within North American spring 2026 Tour. They are supported by Filter and Tim Montana. This Wednesday they stopped by at The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, New Jersey.

Authentic, unapologetic and full of charisma Tim Montana opened the nights show. Hailing from the state of Montana he embodies the roughness and mid-west swagger. He is known to have electrifying live performances, and he did prove that to Montclair crowd. Weaving through his songs with sharing thoughts and stories with audience in between them, creating a bond with his fans. Tim is a hybrid between a country superstar and hard rock heavy hitter. I can say the same about his music, it varies and brings out the best of both words.

American rock band Filter came on next. Interesting band I must say. I have been listening to them since their beginnings and I’ve seen (heard) them taking some wide swings in their musical style. My personal preference is their more industrial sound, as that is where I find myself connecting to their work.

Their stage presence was somewhat muted or hidden in all the darkness and shades to match the essence of music. I bit problematic for photographers, and we had a little chuckle when Take A Picture was played. But hey, it is on us to convey the best visual material we can.

Of course my favorite was (Can’t You) Trip Like I Do, just bringing up that 90’s vibe back. Filter has released eight studio albums in their career spanning over thirty years and during their relatively short set managed to touch all of the creative decades.

For a very long time I have stopped viewing Alter Bridge as a temporary project for the former Creed guys. This band has created their own universe and following to the point when you don’t even think about that when you watch them live. Yes, we all know about Creed, about Kennedy and Slash, but together Tremonti, Kennedy, Marshall and Phillips are Alter Bridge.

Thoughtfulness of lyrics and expertly crafted sound has made Alter Bridge a special band in the current hard rock scene. They stand out for their professionalism and quality. To me their shows are more about hard rock esthetics than a visual rock show.

By now you would probably argue on who is a bigger star Tremonti or Kennedy, but on stage they both interact without any hesitation and let each other stand in the spotlight whenever that time comes, the chemistry is absolutely astonishing.

Considering that this January saw the band release a new self titled album I would have expected a bit more of a new material, but the band kept this set as inclusive of all of their material as they could, featuring songs from five of their eight studio albums.
