On August 21st, 2026, My Chemical Romance performed as their ‘alter ego’ The Black Parade, at Comerica Park, while ending the show as My Chemical Romance from the smaller middle stage. This was actually my 4th time seeing this tour over the last two years. Why? This is because the show is an entirely immersive experience from the moment you get a ticket, to the days after, and until the next performance. Once you purchase a ticket for one of their shows, the pre-planning begins. You join Facebook groups, start working on your outfits and trinkets to trade. Also every show has a fan project, so most fans join to learn how to participate.

Having arrived the day before the concert, I took some time to walk around Detroit. Emo MCRmy fans were crawling everywhere – every restaurant, every shop, and my hotel lobby. Not only that, they were already lining up outside Comerica Park by 3pm the day before for a chance to get a good spot on either the front or back barricade.
The day of the show pre-parties were happening all over as fans eagerly awaited the park opening. Upon entering you were handed a postcard depicting an image from the fictional land of “Draag”. If you’re confused, you will have to go to YouTube for this one because it is impossible to explain the dynamic of the show here. It is equal parts concert, theatre, movie, & graphic novel vibes.
Iggy Pop opened the show with his greatest hits, & then the theatre began. Opening the show with a professional opera singer singing the Draag national anthem, the gents go on to perform the entire Black Parade album in order with added story parts while ending with a chilling killing complete with blood and guts!
After you’re left completely confused by what you just watched, the band changes into “normal” clothes and they come back out to perform on the smaller stage as My Chemical Romance. Highlights of the B stage set were a cover of ‘Jack the Ripper’ as well as ending on ‘Zero Percent’. Once the show is over, the theories start pouring in over social media. Some people talk about how sad they are they missed out on seeing the songs that were played on B stage and others are in full investigation mode on why story line things happened during the Black Parade performance (like why did Gerard cut Franks throat?!).
This band has found a way to keep everyone engaged with their tour whether they attend or not. I’d be lying if I said I won’t be trying to go to another one.
