Candlebox is out on their current tour across North America and SLR Magazine was there to catch them at the world famous Troubadour in Hollywood last week. Decades after their multi-platinum debut album in 1993 this group is still at the top of their live game at this sold-out show. Along with peers such as Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden, Candlebox helped design the soundscape of the early 90’s with their brand of melodic rock with heavy guitar riffs. The 16 song career-spanning set was like a celebration of their catalog, complete with signature hits such as “Far Behind, “You”, Change and “Cover Me”. Lead singer Kevin Martin did a great job of telling the stories of the songs as the show progressed and frequently pointed to his wife Natalie in the balcony as an inspiration for love and music. He also credited Chris Cornell (RIP) as the greatest voice ever. This was a high participation evening as we frequently had the audience singing in lock step with Kevin. This groups sound is at an arena-filling level and it was really special to see these guys within the intimacy of the Troubadour which holds about 500 people.

The group continues their tour through the end of October with opening act Sponge which makes it quite the two-fer for a great evening of music.
