AS THE OPENING ACT FOR NiNi’s U.S. DEBUT CONCERT SHOW AT THE HISTORIC VENUE, THE MINT IN LOS ANGELES, SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23, 2024
I first heard of Angels On The Battlefield when they headlined a show at The Moroccan Lounge in DTLA back in August 18, 2024 when I was shooting for the Prog Rock Band DIANTHVS. Although I didn’t get to see their performance on that night due to other priorities, all I heard from everyone was that it was an epic show. Fast forward on this night, they opened up for NiNi and finally got the chance to see and capture some moments of their performance.

What fascinated me about Angels On The Battlefield is that all The Prog Rock bands I have encountered and seen live on Stage in the past all have a vocalist that screams and sings with harsh melodic vocals making themselves known as “WE ARE PROG ROCK BAND”. Angels On The Battlefield are different. They showcase themselves as Prog Rock without any vocals at all and they let their instruments do all the talking for them.
As with all Prog Rock bands, they are all very experimental in terms of finding that unique sound that separates them from other Prog Rock Bands or any other bands in general. Same goes for Angels On The Battlefield. Their unique sounds of thumping bass and harsh amplified guitars and synthesized keys and fast pounding drums make them so unique as a prog rock band on their own terms.
According to the Lore, “through the power of their songs, Angels On The Battlefield cast their spells of empowerment to help guide listeners as they face their own fears and find courage within themselves…” (from their website onthewingsofdragons.com). Pretty powerful words from a very profound and prolific band who wants to help people find the balance and order of darkness and light through their message and their music with Mental Health Issues on the rise. I, for one, believe in their mantra when I got the brief chance to meet guitarist JD McGibney when I felt his aura on this night. Easy to talk to and full of positive energy from what I saw and felt.
Overall, the music is great. Fast and Loud and melodic with lots of heavy and harsh amplified sounds. Great energy on stage. Great vibe and aura. This Little Devil wouldn’t mind seeing these Angels Rock out on stage again in the future so that I too can find that balance between light and dark and find that inner peace and fight the demons in me through the power of their music.
