Finnish death-doom band Swallow The Sun has embarked this late winter on a North American Tour. Tour so extensive it covers all the major markets with the shows taking place literally each day. They are supported by Harakiri For The Sky, Ghost Bath and Snakes Of Russia. On Monday this week the Shining Over North America Tour came to Empire State and bands played at The Gramercy Theatre in New York City.

We had a chance to cover the headliners Swallow The Sun. Their stage was set just as their music style – dark. The band came on stage dressed all black with most guys wearing hooded outfits that make them look like they are trying to seclude and hide themselves from the world. I kind of made a funny note that the band members looked exactly the same as they looked back in 2019 in the Firelights video. And I love that. Their melodic and heavy music combined with dark and gothic lyrics complement the band’s style.
They opened their set with Innocence Was Long Forgotten, the single from their latest album Shining released in October, 2024. Currently the band has announced the Deluxe edition of this album due on April 11th, 2025 via Century Media. All together the band played six songs from Shining including Charcoal Sky, MelancHoly, November Dust, Under The Moon & Sun as well as What I Have Become (that followed the opener) for which the band just released as single with accompanying video shot at Hellsinki Metal Festival 2024 to complement the Deluxe edition of Shining.
All together the band has released nine studio albums. Their setlist included material from almost all of them. The third song of the set was my absolute favorite from Swallow The Sun called Firelights, an absolutely mesmerizing piece combining mysteriosity of Northern Doom and pagan accents. Beautiful dark melody with some heavy dose of impending doom. The whole set was a masterpiece of Nordic melodic metal. With songs like Woven Into Sorrow and Night Will Forgive Us gave fans the best taste of the bands music, an encore completed with November Dust and Swallow (Horror) from the 2023 from their debut album The Morning Never Came.
As I mentioned before, the show must go on every day – literally. Tonight the bands will play in Florida, tomorrow in Texas and every single night until they will reach their final destination in Chicago. Buy Tickets HERE – https://www.swallowthesun.shop/
