Legendary American rock band Stone Temple Pilots are staying busy in the year 2025 with a multitude of shows, festivals appearances and mini tours. Earlier in the year completing the Australian Tour the band returned to the Americas. Month ago the band also played in the Porão do Rock festival in Brazil. Thursday night the band came to NJPAC to perform in one of their select North American dates.

Tonight, STP had a special guest – New Jersey rock band The Parlor Mob. Band hails from rich in music history beach town Asbury Park. In all honesty it was the first time for me hearing the band. I know it’s a shame; I live in this state for more than two decades. And you know, the band is totally awesome. I don’t know if there is a term “traditional rock”, they struck me as nineties hard rock and Led Zeppelin fusion. They have won twice awards in Asbury Park for the best live band (mind you Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi earned their name on stages in Asbury Park), and it was on full display. Bands music flowed seamlessly and the bands passion was undeniable.

And now it was STP time! This show was a homecoming for DeLeo brothers, guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo, both of whom were born in New Jersey. The band’s roots go back to the end of the eighties. A few name changes later Stone Temple Pilots were born. The band hasn’t undergone much of the line up changes. Besides the DeLeo brothers Eric Kretz on drums is another founding member. There is not much intro needed for their former vocalists, the late Scott Weiland and the late Chester Bennington. We can consider ourselves blessed to have witnessed these two legends and just lived in the same era. Both of these men still are my personal favourite rock music vocalists. Since 2017 the band is fronted by Jeff Gutt, and he has filled the shoes beautifully.

This was my second time witnessing STP live. The first time came back in 2019 at The Met Philly in Philadelphia. I was blown away by their performance back then and the same happened once again. Neither them nor their music ever gets old. Band represents the golden age of grunge and hard rock, and they surely still are the ones that lead the pack.

Earlier I mentioned Jeff Gutt, and how he must fill the shoes of the legendary vocalists before him. He is not them (and no one ever will), but he has his own style, and it fits the band as a glove. He delivers the songs with such ease and poise as he wrote them himself and constantly fist bumps with lucky fans in the front rows.

The bands performances are just as they are – legendary. There were many younger fans in the audience wearing STP shirts and enjoying every single moment of the show.

The songs played on this event were – Unglued, Wicked Garden, Vasoline, Big Bang Baby, Down, Silvergun Superman, Still Remains (Dedicated to Scott Weiland), Big Empty, Plush, Interstate Love Song, Crackerman, Dead and Bloated, Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart, Kitchenware & Candybars, Piece of Pie and of course for the dessert Sex Type Thing.

Band has a multitude of shows and festival appearances coming up. You can see the full list as well as purchase the tickets at this link: https://stonetemplepilots.com/tour-dates/

One response to “LIVE REVIEW: Stone Temple Pilots at New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark, NJ on June 26th, 2025”

  1. Still one of my favorite Grunge Rock bands. Saw Scott’s Solo act just before he left us. Never seen STP LIVE. Definitely on my list
